Magical protection has never had anything to do with ac of armor. The ac of armor is a number set by the builder in a range of the material. No enchants whatsoever can change that count.

I'm pretty certain there is already a definitive answer to this question in the FAQ section of the website.

Okay, I do not know if this is true, so please correct me.

Armor has two values. A deflect value and an absorb Value.

When someone hits you and cannot pierce your armor they miss you or it is deflected. This is based on the piece of armor and the material and cannot be changed by enchants.

When someone gets past your armor's ability to deflect the blow, damage is dealt. The damage is a combination of weapon + enchants + strength. This then goes against the amount you can absorb which is based off of armor's base absorb + enchants + sanc + spirit aura + armor spell. If all that crap is more than the damage dealt it is treated as it is deflected. If not, then it deals it's damage to the end user.

Please uberSKers out there, correct me if I am wrong or commend me for further confusing the populace. ;)

At quick glance I can tell you that the armor spell doesn't absorb any damage whatsoever. It merely increases your own evasion vs blows from foes.

Physical armor on SK is solely used for absorbing damage. If an attack's damage is entirely absorbed, the combat message tells you it was "deflected". However, that's only the case if the attack actually hit. Armor does not any of the work at making an attack miss. In fact, the heavier armor you use, the better it will absorb damage but it will actually make it harder to avoid the blows themselves.

Okay, so melee combat ensues the following?

Swing = Attacker's skill on that weapon plus any accuracy bonuses naturally for that weapon (if they exist) and those based on enchants, possibly also the fact that the defender is wearing light/heavy armor, or a possible factor for them being encumbered, minus armor spell if available, minus for your aim, and whether or not you are encumbered.

If hit, Then decide things such as dodge, parry, and shield block, with encumbrance also impacting the effectiveness of the evasion.

If still hit, damage = (Attackers STR + weapon damage + enchants + where you are aiming) -(sanc reduction + spirit aura reduction) - (natural reduction of armor + enchants)

If damage <0, then deflected.

How about that?

So just so I have it right, MP enchantments on armor do absorb physical damage as well as magical damage?
