Inspired by the general lack of priests right now (had trouble getting a rez recently, anyone?), and the rather sad post on current HFs, allow me to make a plea: If you are creating a new character, you should strongly consider making a priest. Why?

RP
-Priests are one of the few classes that practically force you to RP on a regular basis, via resurrection.
-Priests have so many utility spells that everyone wants to be their friend.
-The clerical heirarchy provides a delineated means of character progression. You can become the HF!
-Any available race is viable as a priest, unlike some other classes.

PK
-Priests have arguably the best set of defense spells in the game
-Magical vestments evens the playing field between heavy, light, and cloth-armored faiths.
-They have access to every spell in the game via scrolls and staves.
-Priests have a diverse set of powerful offensive spells: holy word, harm, and spear of faith

Do it, for yourself, and for all those newbies (like me) who need a lot of rezzes.

Differs based on religion.

By default :P

edit: so that there's at least some purpose to my post, make a priest! They're fun! Train rez in advance and you can GM by sitting on your [REDACTED]!

If even I can do it, you can too!

The more unfortunate part of this. I know I am handling a good 8-12 rezzes per day, and I am not going to be around too much longer. :( Just another reason to make a priest or convince someone else too.

Simple solution to difficult rezzes - don't die.

I made about 4 priests the past two months and I couldn't get them invested in a satisfactory about of time so I just deleted. The only way I can see more priests being made is if the imms are willing to step in and start handing out religion flags themselves. They have done it for me before, so it's not impossible.

I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, having few priests can become a compound problem, resulting in things like this. Hopefully, the new IMM effort to get additional HF's will help.

If anyone ever has trouble getting invested into Meissa because of time-zone differences, shoot me a PM and I'll find some way to take care of the problem in a timely fashion.

If you are creating a new character, you should strongly consider not making a priest. Why?

RP
-Priest is one of the few classes that practically receives tells non-stop and is forced to roleplay due to resurrection requests. "Yo what's up? Res please!"
-Priest has so many utility spells that everyone wants to, and will bug the player non-stop for the online time. "Hey buddy please brew this one for me?"
-After every other priest realizes there is so much work logging on, they don't bother no more. One can become the HF! No wait, that's like, even more work! "So I was thinking of joining this cool religion..."
-There is only one race that will solve the world's problems for a priest, one that can go out of sight at will. "> They are not there."

PK
-Priests that resurrect, lend aid to others end up dying more than those who do not. "That's for helping them you son of a..."
-If said priest did not join a religion that allows wearing heavy-armor, one has to constantly hold another spell in order to compete.
-Powergamers, PvPers will always be on the priests' doorstep when they possess something they want, such as scrolls and staves.
-Priests who employ offensive spells instead of healing ones get cussed at for not doing their job. "Dude, wtf? I need some heals!"

Don't do it, for yourself, and for all those elitists (like... uh, Frollith) who need a lot of rezzes.

(Disclaimer: Just kidding, Frollith.)

Reasons why I play my priest (Not like some of you actually care or something, I just want to increase my ... uh... post count).

Its relaxing. Brewing is a b****. It takes up a lot of time. So when I'm sleeping inbetween brews, I can do other stuff, like surf the net or play a game. No one ever said you can't just sit in an inn and wait for rezz requests. While doing this you can pretty do whatever you want.... I dunno... I'm still a bit tired, so I'll have to expand on what I'm trying to say later if requested.

They are also very easy to level. Including exploring and RP, I was able to get my char up to 48 in about 90 hours. If you want to count actual time spent leveling, it was probably 50-70 hours. (And about 10 of those were to get through J-man -- That is the only area you will find difficulty getting through).

They're not hard. If you haven't played on, and want to give it a shot, they're not bad.

... If not, it looks like the remaining priests (especialy us poor grey ones) will be spammed with dozens of rezz requests. :(

I'll agree that priests are great fun to play. There's no other class where RP just keeps coming to you like that. And if like me you hate the levelling grind, a priest's burden is relatively light.

I'd be cautious, though, about joining a religion that can't find a priest to promote. One disadvantage of priesthood is being subject to an immortal's whim. The absence of priests may be telling you something about how enjoyable the religion is. In this case, I'd suggest talking with some follower of the religion at length, so you know the OOC rules, and how the immortal roleplays that god.

You bring up an interesting thing. Yes, a disadvantaget to being a priest is beging subjected to the whim of the patron immortal. But the absences of priests during this part of SKs life isn't due to how enjoyable the religion is. So while that is sometimes the case it is not always true. Dabi (as well as a few other cloth armor patrons), for instance, don't generally have a active HF because most people don't want to play a cloth priests. I can, however, speak for Dabi. I had no problems with her, yet, she probably has very few, if any, followers. (I think Thuban also falls into this category... although if I remember correctly they don't have a patron IMM).

Anyway... just my thoughts.
