Your HP ME and PE dont regen for the simple reason of abuse. If you dont see how think harder.

If your wounds in game can heal over time, just by resting or even standing there and waiting, then they should heal when you sign off IF you age while you are not on as well; if time still goes by, then your wounds should heal accordingly. I'm not talking about an auto-heal when you sign off, but a recovery either comparable or equal to how you heal and regen while standing. And, since you age, you should also grow hungry and thirsty, too. There is a bit of sarcasm in my point on this, but it's only because I think the aging thing is jacked up.

Everyone's characters age at the same rate as the world. That was a founding part of the game design. There is absolutely zero chance that this will ever change. It's non-negotiable.

Unless you get a certain item that reverts your age to its original score...

I've tried MUDs with aging by hours played. SK's system is far better for roleplaying. Not only do you have the consistency problems already alluded to, but then people worry about 'wasting time' with fountain RP. Aging by RL time is also more newbie-friendly, since newbies tend to play with their new toy quite a lot.

Maximum age is an important point in deciding a race, especially now that mentor train points can be acculmulated. Nonetheless, humans and half-elfs seem to be the majority races, with plenty of giants around. Griffons are scarce right now, but that's at least partly because a lot of people played them after their fix, and these players have now moved on to something else. There doesn't seem to be a critical balance problem.

The aging system is part of the appeal to SK, if you don't want to miss a lot of time on a character just don't have a lot of alternates.

As for the healing idea, no. People would log out to heal up to avoid PK, aggressive NPCs, etc. It would be completely abused and anybody who can't see that needs to wake up.

Then, like I said, if time elapses then why don't wounds heal, et. al.? The only thing that happens when you sign out is that your life still goes by, but everything else is stagnant. That doesn't make sense from a practical point of view

I have to agree with Ilyana that [although you have a solid point with this conceptually,] it's kind of a necessary mechanical sacrifice to prevent the flagrant abuse that would follow OOCly from allowing people to heal while logged off.

Yet when you sign off of SK, the BODY isn't there anymore. Does it just go to some aging pit while it's stuffed full of food and water constantly, yet prevented from having its wounds healed? Talk about disbelief...

I actually try to think of an IC reason my character's not going to be around for a while when I log off. Sometimes it's difficult, especially when you find you have to log out very suddenly, but I'm definitely of the opinion that things like this help with IC immersion for everyone, in the long run. I try not to just say "I'm leaving the realms," you know, because nobody actually knows what that MEANS. Maybe if I were playing a sorceror or something. ;)

So yes. Only you can decide where your character goes when you sign off. Lately, mine's wandering around the tundra speaking to the leaders of various other wild tribes. No "aging pit." I don't think it strains the bounds of credibility TOO much to assume she can find her own food and water while I'm gone, either.

Just my dot-ought-two.

My character visits her family when she isn't training. They keep her well fed and hydrated and spiritually nourished as well.

Okay, Ilyana made a good point regarding the healing stuff. Personally I think that would be counteracted by the fact that your character would get hungry and thirsty as well, and so after a point he/she wouldn't regen as fast, but oh well.

I dunno. In the end the characters' lifespans are long enough that you'll probably get bored of the character before the life limit approaches anyway... I guess the lifespan thing was always a little odd to me, and maybe because it was how it was explained to me (or lack of explanation maybe, I don't know). Regardless, if it's not going to change then there's no reason to continue the discussion. :o
