There are a couple of things to keep in mind with Putty. It is my favorite telnet client to use aside from Zmud, for its simplicity. It will fit on a 3.5" floppy.
There is one important setting to change if you use it. It is located under the connections tab, and the sub-heading telnet. There is a selection between active and passive connection for telnet. I would select passive. That made it connect for me. That was the only thing I HAD to do to connect. Of course, I made the scrollback much larger, adjusted some colors, window size, and several other settings which make it all that much easier to use.
This is what I would do:
Download the client (I use puttytel, smallest and simplest, can be found by searching for puttytel on Google)
Double click on the program (no install necessary, might not work with all OS)
Change all the necessary settings (Including adding the host and port for SK: shatteredkingdoms.org 1996)
Goto the session heading, write Shattered Kingdoms into the session
Click Save
Double click the saved Shattered Kingdoms session
It should connect to the login for SK
That is how I play away from my own computers. Nice and neat. All I need is a internet connection.
