If I am in room A, and I am behind an elemental. I can hit a NPC to a room east of me and that NPC will be drawn in and even if I flee, the NPC will hunt me.

However, if I move into that room and hit the NPC with the same spell while in the same room and then walk out. The NPC will not track me.

It works on groups of NPCs too.

For instance, 5 NPCs are in the east room and I fireball them, they will chase me everywhere. But if i just walk into the room and fireball the room a few times, i can walk out without fear of being tracked.

in all of these examples I do not enter melee combat at any point.

Is this a bug? I can recreate this anytime if a log is needed.

Are they not tracking you because you've left your elemental behind to fight them?

in the case of the ranged combat starting the fight, even if I flee and they stay to fight the elemental for a few rounds, they will still break off to chase me.

in the other case, they never follow me. I had one instance where the elemental fled at the same time i did so it was not there for them to stay and fight it. and they still did not track me.

I think it's cuase when you do a ranged attack, it triggers them into 'tracking mode' while if your in the room with them when you start fireballing, it doesn't since your right there.

Of course I've always wondered how seemingly ANYTHING can track you through an entire city if you do a ranged attack on it. Even things that you think shouldn't be able to track at all, but just visually look for you.

I don't know if this pertains to anything, but I've found that a lot of NPCs don't track you unless you do melee damage to them. But then there's some that will track you just so long as they've entered combat with you.

for instance I try to charm a NPC and fail with wimpy100 and I'm hit and flee the NPC does not follow me because even though I attacked him I never struck him with my melee weapon.

I can try again and fail once again, but this time I'm blocked from escape and can't flee and am forced to melee him. When I can finally flee, the NPC now tracks me.

Any NPCs that you lure in with a spell or weapon, from another room will track you for eternity, or atleast till they get tired and give up.

Most aggro NPCs once they have noticed you will also track you till they get tired.

Only NPCs that don't track you are those NPCs you are nice and peaceful till you [REDACTED] them off, then they just get angry when they see you again. Unless of course you too aggrivate them with a spell that lures them in.

Has been like this for awhile, doubt its a bug, its more featuristic.

And any NPCs that are agroed (by default or by player action) will remain extra frenzied until dead once they are attacked. It is so fun to stumble into these types of NPCs and then find the player corpse once you've survived the encounter.
