Not aim mid, aim unknown. You can ONLY hit the chest as long as you don't change you aim or log off. Thought everyone knew that...

Right, I meant that. The default aiming, what is aim mid, works that way.

Aim mid also hits arms. But as a noob you only hit the chest so you kill the NPC a lot quicker and you get better xpees.

Even if the newbie aim bug is true (and at this point I'm thinking it is), that doesn't follow that you are getting more XP. In a generic MUD where you get XP per kill, that would be true. On SK you get XP per amount of damage you've done. So you are actually just forcing yourself to cycle through NPC kills faster to get the same amount of XP.

Can we get more XP from switching from aiming upper to aiming lower in the middle of a fight then...per NPC? Is that what your saying?

That's a bug? And I always thought that would be a feature.

Sort of. You will continue to gain XP until the opponent is dead, unless you've rendered him helpless (such as chopping off both his arms). It's not unlimited though, since even if you spread the damage around, an NPC can only take so much cumulative damage before he dies.

Granted, I don't know the numbers but I still disagree.

Since you get xp for every damage you do to a NPC, with noob aim, with only hitting the chest; will get you xp per blow till that NPCs hps are spent and its dead.

Now the same would happen if you aimed upper, with the only difference that sometimes you mangled the chest putting that NPC to 20%, yet didn't once hit the head. Then you get a few more hits in, but all on the head. The NPC's hp won't change, since you need to hit the head a few times before it starts causing its hp to drop. Sort of like the mode stun bug.

So while the noob who is just aiming at chests cycles through NPCs quicker he gets the same xp as the other guy but in 3 rounds faster time or so. Leaving him to rest sooner when he is tired and being able to kill more NPCs per tick reset.

Conclusion, I always thought this was the newbie bonus to make leveling after creation a lot easier, untill you logged off or the game crashed/rebooted.

That is exactly the same path of logic we used, Trag. But I'm not one to dispute it with the coder.

It's not a newbie bonus, it's a bug. You may indeed be killing the NPCs 1/3 faster but you would also only be getting 1/3 the XP for each one. So, no actual bonus in levelling speed. It still needs to be fixed because it's not consistant with standard attack behavior.

I always thought it was coded that way because griffon noobs would get the MANGLE, maul, ect messages and when you logged off and then back on you'd just get normal claw attacks. Don't know if thats still the case, but thats how it used to be atleast.
