Training is what you do with the train command at a teacher or mentor.

Leveling is what you do when you go out and kill stuff.

Leveling is an OOC term that most people try to stay away from in-game, so other terms have been developed. Using the term 'training' can be misleading though since it can refer to leveling on NPCs, skills training on NPCs, or skills training with a trainer or mentor.

Now, I'm quite new to this game, so I'm probably one of the "noobies" mentioned, but I found that grouping was extremely effective. Now, this was probably an extreme case (2 Griffon Barbarians, to be exact) but we weren't just killing twice as many monsters. The ammount of XP we were getting rose exponentially. Lv. 1s killing Bakemonos and Goblins and obviously Zaks quite easily (God bless Bash). By the time we actually went to an inn to rest, I had enough XP not only to get all my Amateur skills to Very Good from a friendly mentor (I think there were 2 or so at Good, but that was his fault  ) and learn like... 4-5 languages. I was amazed at the ammount of XP we managed to get in the same ammount of time it would have taken me to maybe get a level and a half or so and a couple plat.

However, like I said, extreme case, mileage may vary. :)

Hehe. Just out of curiuosity, was that mentor a scout, with a human woman with him?

Using training in sub of leveling is just as OOC in my opinion. Back when we had levels, it was what circle are you instead of what level are you? Now people ask what status are you instead of what level.

Subbing one term for another does not make it any more IC. You can be a little creative and say I'm going to go test my skills against so and so. Or I plan to rid the city of it's infrestation of whoever. Not say I'm going to go train, wanna come?

Arelgama: I believe so. :) Was she the one that came "out of hiding", or was it at the inn.

I've met two couples so far, so I'm confused

It was the one who was a scout also, she was a human. And yes, it was at the inn.
