The pantheistic nature of most of the population of the game means that when you swear service to one of the hellion gods, there's nothing stopping you from nodding your head towards Mira for good luck every now and then. I'd consider it rather appropriate roleplay.

However, you can't join one of the hellion religions then dedicate your character as a dark knight of Mira - the hellion gods tend to get upset when you leave them for someone else. ;)

Upset is a pretty mild word for it.

Technically it's not hard coded. That would mean in the code it says something like 'if religion == mira: denied!'. In general, hard coding is bad, so I try to avoid it. Instead religions have flags and some are flagged as allowing paladins or hellions. It's modifiable at run-time, I just don't intend to modify it. :P

You posted in response to me asking this in either a religion or religion HF forum that it IS hard coded. (no longer have access to those forums so I can't pull it up).

You said that it would generate a message such as "Your god(ess) does not approve of your choice" when trying to invest a pal/hel into a non pal/hel faith.

It's true, it will say that. I'm just quibbling over the definition of hard-coded.

The distinction being that an Imm could set the flag, but an HF cannot?

I could set the flag, nobody else could. And I won't.

My apologies then, I missunderstood.

I could still roll a hellion, put on a symbol of dabi if I so chose and declare myself a blood knight. And then dare anyone to say differently (course without spells a lot of people would probably take me up on that, but them's the breaks). You dont have to be invested with the invest flag to participate in religions. You can just rp it.

Might be careful saying that. I have seen many veteran players hunt down anyone who is 'not' in the religion. My thought is that they just shouldn't be in the cloth relgions.

Here's a great solution...let every faith have hellions/paladins, just make them armor restricted like the priests. If someone wants a paladin or hellion of Mira or any other cloth faith, let them, it will be fun to see how they work with such a difference in armor strength.
