I wielding a torch and it got dark and I wanted to light it bu I could not find my tinderbox. Is there a way you can light a torch in the dark? Should there not be a warnig that it is getting dark?

Not that I know of.

But torches aren't a good solution to the problem of darkness anyway. They take up a hand slot you could use for better purposes. You're much better off getting a glowing item to light your way. Several classes are able to make a normal object glow. Just ask around in-game.

Also scouts are a good source for quick infravision herbs. They are usually dropping the stuff all over the place. If you find one, ask them about it.

I think you should be able to find things in the dark with an int check. You should be able to get items out of your backpack in the dark based on it.

If you are successful you get the item, if you fail you get the message.

You fail to find what you are looking for.

That way you can get your tinderbox out and light your torch. I also think scouts should be able to 'light' things with no tinderbox. They are scouts and should be able make fires and shelters in the outdoors.

The continual light argument does not address the issue. Some people WANT to use the torch, even if it hinders levelling or XP by taking up a hand slot, because torches are the classic light in fantasy setting. I mean, Gandalf uses magic, but Aragorn/Boromir/the hobbits, etc use torches.

And yes, I agree that one should be able to find a tinderbox in a container with a stat check. The best habit should be to keep the tinderbox in your inventory, as you should STILL be able to see it even when blinded by the darkness. I could be wrong.

We worked our way through the messages that occur when a torch is failing quite carefully. You should be able to notice anywhere from 2-4 messages (I can't recall the exact number, it's been a while) that hint the torch is about to go out.

I also suggested that you be able to light a 2nd torch from your current one, but I'm not sure if that was implemented or not.

This time he was holding a torch but didn't have it lit yet.

The idea of a warning of sorts that it's getting dark sounds good actually, but I don't know about using a tinderbox you can't actually see. I can understand fumbling around with it possibly, and maybe even dropping it if you can't see but I don't really think that's necessary.

I would suggest some sort of "it's getting dark" warning an hour before it is dark. Give a time of dusk the hour the sun sets and dark the hour after and the setting sun would be the warning. Of course on a cloudy day that wouldn't work. "It's getting harder to see" might be a good cloudy substitute.

I am having my own problem with light.
I found myself in a cave without a torch. I lit it up just fine in my inventory, but I cant seem to grab it. It says I need a free hand, but I cannot figure out how to stop using either the shield or dagger (something or something). Can anyone give me some advice?

if you are in a place that is dark, you would not be able to remove anything because you cannot see it. If you can run back out side the cave or wait for the moonlight to kick in.

I would like to see a change put in if you have a light in you inv then you should be able to have enough light to remove and equip things just not be able to see the room or any people in them.
