First off, there is PLENTY of IC history to allow dwarves as paladins and hellions. I've only ever played one dwarf, but he got to master in Alshain's faith as a defender merc.

Secondly, there is jack-sh*t IC history for centaurs in either class, mostly because of what Cannibal said - all of their weaknesses just don't cover the advantages they'd get as a hellion or paladin. Can you image a centaur hellion or paladin getting hit with an opposed flamestrike? Centaur paladin would stand only a slightly better chance than a hellion, and it would still hurt like hell.

Ask anyone who's played a centaur priest. The buffs you get from your protection spells do damned close to JACK against any fire attacks, let alone opposed alignment ones. The hole in your armor makes a centaur paladin EASY prey for a low level cleave, while for a hellion, not having the extra slots for enchants would most likely be fatal.

etc. etc. ad infinitum

summary Dwarves, yea, centaurs? not a chance

If you wanna buff centaurs something decent, give them greatly reduced damage versus iron or something. The fire weakness is really the worst thing going for them, and I'd wager nine times out of ten its why they aren't played - and the tenth time it's for the lack of armor slots or crappy dex.

OR, make barbarians prime stat con. It wouldn't hurt the other races one bit, and it would give centaurs a nice boost.

The bottom line is a fire is a very common attack and so is blunt I suppopse but resisting blunt is only good in pvp.

Centaur barbarians and scouts are pretty good. They are really good versus fisties, and leveling a centaur with their innate resistance to blunt is also much easier.

I said that wrong. What I actually meant resisting plunt is good in training but not good in pvp. People don't seem to use maces or lances or warhammers in pk. I said it backwards by mistake.

4+3+2+3 for the individual combos...
+8 that would play, +3 that may or may not.

23 "yes"
2 "eh"
10 "no", out of which at least 4 voted so because they would enjoy the prospect of me burning to a smoky crisp. :drunk:

RP wise, d0rfs make fine paladins, even better hellions. OMG I want a d0rf hellion of Sargas. How elite concept would that be?

Centaurs now, make good RP options but imo they lack in mechanics for these two classes. A lot. The dex penalty mainly, and the weaknesses.

If I have to order a cheat combo as a twink, it's a giant hellion. Give me a giant hellion anyday. OMG, cleave w/ giant sized greataxe + spam bash = ownage.

I'd want to see dwarf hellions and paladins.

Centaurs are far too tribal in my opinion.

Yay for Dwarf/Centaur Hellion/Paladin.

Why all four? Everyone keeps on putting forth that centaurs are tribal beings, and while this is usually true I'm really starting to think that no one understands the word they are using.

All "tribal" is, is an attitude that focuses more on identity and pride in a culture then specifically basing it around race.

The best example I can think of is more of a darkie one, but the NPC would be a good example. You protect you and yours, however if the NPC were lightie it'd probably be like a more benevolent Yakuza organization but the example still stands. Just beause someone/something is tribal, doesn't mean it shuns magic and all of that jazz.

With that said I can't think of much more fitting than a centaur paladin of Alshain sporting a nice full breastplate with some gleaming barding and such standing as a protector for his tribe, and for those around him. One being far more weary to intercede in the wars and battle abroad, doing so only when he felt his gods's call to do so, but jumping to defend and intercede in anything closer to home, or having the chance to do so.

Both dwarf paladins and hellions sound good to me, and since you don't want to unbalance the H to P, I don't think that a centaur hellion is that much out of character, so I say throw them all in.

No reason to throw the baby out with the bath water.

I'm not picking on you, but I feel this is a very narrow scope of the Centaur RP. Sure most of them are tribal, but they CAN still be priests and mercenaries that get along just fine in a world where they have to conform to a more civilized way of life.

I can see a Centaur leaving the tribe to become a knight just as much as they would to be a priest. They may or may not get shunned for such an action, but that is left up to the RP of it all. Remember, these are not average centaurs. I believe the players are the elite heroes of pyrathia. Some are obviously greater than others, but none of them should just be common folk. If they were, then we might as well be playing the (feudal) Sims.

I also think that there tribal lineage may give them some interesting tweaks on the system of honor and what is a knight. I really would rather have people who make off the wall character concepts then to say we should all be cookie cutter representations that have been done before.

People want some change in the general play in the game, these give you that. Until we can find a class for the light that balances things out so the darkies can have Orcs/half-orcs/minataurs, we will only have this, which is already quite balanced.

EDIT: Spelling.
