After coming across one of these in Ch'zzrym I think they would be a cool race. Perhaps they could be the first race to reach 25 int as a racial max. Relatively low physical attributes with innate resistances to magic and charm effects with maybe 22 wisdom. Like a gnome only more intelligent and less wise. Any ideas on this?

Hm. No.

I hate to be so blatant, but ithilids are a race that is superior to any
other playable race. Of course, you can find a way to make ithilids
come in par with the rest of the races, but that would be just making
ithilids lame for the sake of making them playable. Its sort of like
playing a dragon.

In other fantasy settings, Ithilids are brain-sucking creatures,
descendants of brain gods. They are best known for their psionic
powers, and the way they create thralls of any other creature.

In 3d eddition, You can play an ithilid, but a 1st level ithilid
psion would be considered to be the same level with a lv 9
human mage. Such an adjustment could never be done in SK.

Instead of ithilid PC's, I would instead suggest to eventualy
create an ithilid area, complete with an elder brain, lots of thralls,
and possibly some connection to the outer planes or the astral.
Though, that would mean they would also need to be given psionic
powers, and that would mean creating a whole new spell list, which
in itself is a lot of trouble.

What I can say is, perhaps if we eventualy see a psion class, there
will also be a mind flayer community area somewhere :P

Or we could avoid the D&D archetype just like we did with drow/deep-elves, and form our own opinions of illithids, not ithilids.

I'm not so sure if it's worth it though. Gnomes are already pretty solidly built for a caster race in that regard, and although it might be cool, it's just a bit of a stretch to have someone playing an illithid. Something just doesn't belong.

At this rate, the farthest stretch from humanoid right now is griffon, and introducing illithid as a new playable race would make things awkward.

Ahhh . . .We can change them to fit SK. Erevan, we did just fine with deep-elves. Technically a 1st lvl delf fighter is equivalent to a 3rd lvl human fighter.

I personally think this would be a really kewl class. One of their abilities is after they kill someone they can use an innate skill that would destroy the corpse but would give them a small amount of mana back.

[edit] I meant to say kewl race, not class.

Drewbag forgot about that cabal. I still think that something could be worked out such that it is still unique from others. Just an idea. The only way they can have a 25 int is to eat out the brains(destroy a corpse) of a semi-intelligent being every so often, if they don't their int is only 22 or 23.

What I dont like is that we are taking something that already exists, change the name a wee bit and pretend like we created something new. I see no originality from changing the name Ithilid to Ilithid, nor do I see any originality in changing drow to dark-elf. I only see it as a way to avoid copyright laws, though I do not think it would be an issue with a free game.
