I've actually done this successfully to get around a work firewall. Its pretty amazing what you can do with a standard
Linksys WRT54G running
dd-wrt. I didn't need a second machine at all. All I had to do was use my router as a tunnel, and I was fine. It even has built in support for tools like
DynDNS. If you don't have any way to do this, what you have to do is set up a machine on the outside of the network to act as your tunnel. Its not terribly complicated, and I'm sure google could bring up good results...
