If the spells are kept at the level of the PC then the price should be reduced for any spell that has a possibility for failure. Things like heal, refresh, and energize are fine since you get what you pay for, but trying to cure any ailments costs an astronomical amount of money by the time it finally works.

I'm fine with the heal disease and heal poison spells costing markedly less.

I didn't miss your post at all. I responded to it, with the statement that NPC healers cast their spells at the level of the PC purchasing that spell. So, say you were fighting a NPC higher than you in level (usually are for leveling) the chance to remove that spell will be less because of the difference in levels. Which is why I suggested that those spells were cast at a minimum level or increasing the spellpower on them, nothingxs suggested making more higher level NPC healers and reverting to the old system, and Warlord came up with my favorite solution yet, simply reducing the cost of those specific spells from healers. I still don't think that will help the success rate, but its a fair trade for the chance that the spell will fail.

Not to mention the "Tell your level by the cost of heal poison" is a little outdated now. I mean...that's what -I- used it for.

I suggest that -at least regarding the healing of spells that are maledictions- the NPC healer should cast them at his/her OWN level as a NPC, regardless the PC's level. This way they will indeed have a high success rate. If you simply make them cheap, the newbie char will still have to spend 2 obsidians in vain, just in many more efforts. :P

What then when the GM goes to an Initiate level healer? He'll never get a high level spell removed that way, and the cost would be insane.

A GM would never depend on a NPC healer to heal his poison/plague. For various reasons.

1) By then he will have his eq so well enchanted and his stats will be so much better built that he will either shrug off the malediction casted by a NPC lower his level, or even if he gets it, it will affect his A LOT less, so he can make it to wherever he wishes to till then.

2) He already has a circle of in character acquaintances that can cast champion/GM spells on him

3) He has easier/faster access even when already inflicted with the malediction to resources to heal it, such as store bought potions etc

4) He is more likely to belong in a cabal/tribunal, thus even more possible ppl to help him with it, or in the worst scenario, a safe place to go die.

5) A GM very rarely has to venture to areas where NPCs will cast poison/plague to him/her since he doesn't need to level of them.

To address this problem, I have made a change so that if the healer fails to cure your effect, he will only charge you half price. I feel this is an adequate compromise. You will see this next update.
