I don't really think that's necessary at all. Detection of auras would be part of magical sight, which sorcs at the least have the most of, given all three other detects.

Actually, it's Four Detects plus Detect Aura.

Perhaps Detect aura could have a "mistake" percentage that would drop to practically zero as you walk towards GM with spell mastered? Maybe make the spell have a certain duration and a penalty afterwards?

What I am actually proposing is make it a combination of how skills like "track" work and spells like "Giant strength" work.

Tada!

This is actually theoretically possible, but saying more would be IC knowledge.

I know about it. I am talking about spying on the general case. As it stands right now, only an extremely limited number of people can do that. It shouldn't be limited to that set of players. People don't have to worry about spies right now. It would bring a lot more rp if people actually had to worry about it. Right now, a person cannot make the spy char concept, without the circumstance (for lack of a better term) happening.

I don't deny that there are some ways to fool these- I just really wish you had to jump through less hoops to get them.

I actually wrote a huge stink of a rant once about how detect aura and know alignment ruins RP, but never posted it.

listen, im a bit under the influence, maybe, just maybe full of bright ideas. get rid of your aberrant, miscreant...lightie...sorry dont know all of them because I always have played darkies...but, what if...what if this was gotten rid of. A player gets to decide his path in RP, this makes a conflict for some classes i.e. (knights/paladins?) but does it really effect the char? Grey=we do what we want because we can say we are grey and light =we do what we want becuase the opposite is dark...and dark=we do what we want because opposite is light..maybe getting rid of this all together would force RP...i.e. Delf wants to follow Dulrik becuase he lived in a house ruled by a matron has been followed to beleive that it is not the way, maybe the GODDESS OF LIES has it wrong and he wants to do it another way?!?!?! Huh huh huh. I think maybe that character religions should be based on character actions or maybe in IC suggestion but really, should a delven knight still be the most hated person in the world and still following the code..enjoi
