I haven't seen a very good representation of sticks, tonfa, nunchaku, sai, staff, kama, or basically any farm impliment turned weapon. That is what this thread is for though is to improve the sub-types.

Okay, Rial is right about one thing, katana's were used two handed. What he doesn't say is that the katana was not generally used beyond first contact. Which is why they had a wakazishi. Which was used beyond first contact. Dai-katanas were used by troops who were unskilled. Yes, there is styles of combat that only uses katanas but generally they were taught to use both the katana and the wakazishi. Two-handed wpns could be used by any dolt. I would like you, Rial, to quote your sources. Skilled swordsmen always used one handed wpns.

Uh, Yana...kamas are among the most hoarded and most used weapons.

And what you're referring to are typically known as "escrima".

Oh, and while we're clearing up interesting knowledge, Rial - the japanese DID have an established two-sword style (katana/wak). Look up Musashi Miyamoto sometime. To be honest, I'm not sure how this fits into the 'This weapon is overpowered conversation, though.

Back on topic - the tonfa could probably be removed. They ARE one of my favorite weapons, but they got snuck in right before, or right after (I don't remember, but it was back when I had Signas) the weapon changes, and they got stuck as a "jo staff" subtype, which is clearly erroneous.

When you mention musashi, youre not speaking about katana. The guy killed a sword school's master with a [REDACTED] oar he carved into a bokken just so that it would be longer than the guy's nodaichi. You could give him a kitten and he'd turn it into some mass death bringing superweapon.

I loved the katana + wakizashi combo in that game. Swashies that use that combo should be able to throw their wakizashi right in the face/throat of their opponent, impaling them and instantly killing them just like cleave. If they fail the roll, they lose a weapon.

Anyway, seriously now, thing with the weapon system is not the elite subtypes and the not so elite, it's the availability of the elite weapons. When builders add like 24242 khopeshes, divine orbs and kamas in SK, the other weapons become even less used.

Do you want to lure people in using other subtypes? Add unique weapons of the worse subtypes in SK and give them really neat scripts. Please, don't add any more HP regen khopeshes or kamas that cast hellfires. Put these scripts on some limited not so commonly used subtypes made of nice materials and suddenly you'll see mercs specced in claymores instead of flamberges/greatswords for the claymore of doom, or mercs specced in epee instead of kama for the acid blast epee!

PS: The playerbase is getting smaller and there is far too much phat lewt out there imo. Don't add more things, but wipe out some of the existing items.

Why do weapons need scripts to make them attractive?

Some of the best weapons out there in the game have no scripts, and do mass devastation.

The problem is that you don't have good material types. There are no adamantite or energy epees at the high end, and other weapons have been neglected this quality.

It's a simple thing that can be taken in mind when new equipment is placed in the game.

Gold lantern is still correct though, as he is probably the earliest example of "two sword style"

People would still prefer an energy kama to an energy epee any day. But if you offer a simple energy kama and an energy epee that HP regens or offers shield/sanc for example, some people would seriously consider using an epee.

The problem started when the subtype system was first implemented. Suddenly you saw things like the spiral wires or the archangel swords being cutlasses(I think) or longswords. People started QQing about them, turning them to some point to even kamas(the wires) and khopeshes.

Then when new lewt was placed in areas, builders wanted to create the omgelite sick items in their areas. Weapons that worked as HP regen or HP batteries were added, and instead of them being any not commonly used subtype(double bladed axes or broadswords or halberds), they were added as khopeshes for example. They didn't want to risk adding a great script and people not using the item due to the weapon subtype. So they discouraged players more from using bad stats subtypes.

So as time passed a vast range of high quality khopeshes/kamas/divine orbs/etc was added, so people started going crazy with khopesh spec etc. None bothered to add an energy bastard sword, so none even considers using a bastard sword these days.

PS: I'm happy Tregr was taken out, imagine yet another 1337 bspear in SK. We have more than enough bspears already.

People don't use epees because of the low quantity of high end material types.

You don't have to have scripts to be badass. Make a few adamantite or energy or even diamond epees and I bet you anything some players of swashbucklers would definitely pick them up as an offhand weapon.

So the whole discussion is only for 1-2 swashies using 1 epee as an offhand weapon?

I thought it was a discussion to make all subtypes at least decent for many people(and most of all mercs, they get specialize at subtypes after all).

Man, you're just as dense as ever. My entire argument does not hinge off of a number of swashbucklers using a weapon. It was a single example.
