It should be exactly like the say command but instead of "says . . ." it is "sings . . . ."

That would be wonderful! Simplest is best in this instance, I think.

In all honesty, any command that would allow uncoded singing would be acceptable. So long as the old recall shortcut "/" isn't used in the command. When that shortcut got removed from the game, I immediately aliased it on my client.

On that note, I would like an expansion of say to include things like whisper. Stuff like this would make rping easier for all.

Command whisper. Chance of being overheard 60%.
Bob whispers to Tina 'You need to stop eating those pastries.'
Bob whispers something to Tina.

Chance of intended target hearing 98%.
Bob whispers to you 'They are making you fat.'
Bob whispers something to you.

Such a command would be extra-cool if it came with a few bonuses/penalties [to overhearing/being overheard] by class/stats/skills, even if they were subtle.

I definitely like the suggestion about a 'sing' command that's functionally identical to 'say,' in any case. Asterisks are lame.

Hrm... but what color? Technically, you're still using a language, so the colors should still match I would have thought. Now don't quote me (avoids Dulrik's stern gaze), but would a sing command that is an exact replica of the say command work?

That is, instead of various styles of this:
> say *singing* The hills are dead with the...
Adelia says '*singing* The hils are dead with the...

It could be done thus:
> sing The hills are dead with the...
Adelia sings 'The hills are dead with the...

It could even be targetted, in theory:
> singto Dopey The hills are dead with the...
Adelia sings to Dopey, 'The hills are dead with the...

I know everyone seem to want more of a unique snowflake approach (additional color, asterisks, etc), but this would at least separate them from SAY text in a natural way, and lessen the need to use the emote commands incorrectly.

edit: I'll apologise now for 'unique snowflake' reference; honestly I couldn't think of a better turn of phrase for that. :(

I also totally agree with the replica os say command part. Also when I used colorized emotes, it was never in the color that tongues use. Usually it was dark blue (Achernar related) or dark grey.

Could just make it check to see if you're using ~ at the end of a say, and therefore change the say adjective to 'sings', in the way that ! makes it exclaims and ? makes it asks.

I am pretty sure he meant a 'say' command.
