I thought you wanted less people trying to get to GM and to start roleplaying at lower levels. Isn't this a bit contradictory to that idea?

I wouldn't say it's contradictory. The SK Bonanza is a special event celebration. Some people are already able to get to GM in a few days of play with or without the bonuses. But for the people that complain that it is far too slow, this should be a nice incentive to try a new character. I doubt that those people will GM over this weekend, but they may end up a couple of status levels higher than they would have otherwise.

And the familiarity grouping bonus should address a lot of the other concerns about levelling in a permanent way. SK is about roleplaying, so we want you to have every incentive to level in a group, if you can find one. If one group member hasn't become familiar with the Blasted Chancel but you've already used it up yourself, you can now go ahead and group with confidence that you aren't wasting your time.

Group p.leveling. Hrm... sounds fishy. Sounds like people can be in situations now where they can spend twelve hours at the ToM to get from CHAMP to GM like they used to before the area familiarity was introduced. They just have to bring the right people now.

I'm not looking forward to an influx of characters that GM within the first year of there life.

Why not use enlightenments as an incentive for role play? Or more imm controlled mobiles interacting with people?

SK has always encouraged grouping - we've had a XP bonus for being in a group all along - but familiarity system was apparently too much disincentive to group for people as it was.

I think I've set this change up in a way that won't be broken. Eventually your group mates will end up just as familiar as you are. Finding an endless stream of people who haven't visited the Temple of Murder is going to take up its own share of time, so is not necessarily most efficient.

But hey, I've been wrong before. If it gets crazy, I can scale it back.

I wouldn't underestimate the ability of people on this mud to exploit the things you do to help new players. What's really needed, is for new players to be able to find these things out IC. I only know as much as I do because I had someone helping me as I went along. I like how Armegeddon MUD has OOC mentors that teach people how to keep up, instead of cheat.

I'm just worried about that giant gap between the n00b and the twink, since there is no in between around SK, getting larger. I would like to see a reason that a Champ would take a Journeyman on a trip with them. As it is, your almost forced to have to RP with people of your own level, since that is what level of a friend you need to help you train.

Maybe this will help, but I admit, that I am very skeptical. This is, after all, just my opinion. The real goal here, is for everyone to have F.U.N.

For just coming back to the mud after a few years absence, I'm glad I came back at this time, lets me get back into the leveling(which is what I left because of in the first place) really easily.

Each religion gets one unique religion spell at Journeyman status. These spells are currently hidden from your list until you've trained them. This may change once all of the religions have performed the necessary RP to reveal the existence of their spells and get a trainer for it in the game.

Since I had to do a reboot for other reasons anyway, I took this opportunity to add one more feature to the area command. The list is now sorted: first by upper level limit, then by lower level limit, and finally by kingdom. This way, the top areas on the list are the one's that you want to visit first before you become too high level for them.
