better in combat damaging spells? wtf are you smoking? The only combat spells that paladins really have that are worth noting are bolt of glory and holy word. Paladin = slightly more hp than shaman. The only thing paladins do better than shamans is melee damage. Did I also mention that there are huge restrictions on the things that paladins can and cannot hurt with their spells? The same restrictions do not apply to shamans.
Paladins are subpar meleers with subpar damage spells and not even a full compliment of healing and malediction removing spells. All things being equal, a shaman is going to crush a paladin in PvP.
The differences in protection from mithril and adamantite armor are not worth writing home about.

First, stop talking about the protective measure of SA. Its dmg absorbtion doesn't stack with something else. Okay, the paladin only sucks compared to the shaman because he doesn't have maledictions. The rest the pallie is generally better or the same at least. Paladins are better tanks.
Give me a break, protection doesn't even work against grey auras. Spirit aura does. It also protects against dark aura and light aura at the same time. There was also a change that Dulrik made that increases spirit aura to have the same protective value as protection and sanctuary COMBINED.
protip: spirit aura still stacks with sanctuary
