There are enough reasons to let the belt slot as it is and equally enough to change it. I agree with Cannibal that wearing a heavy backpack and fighting (as a light armor class) is much worse than wearing a heavy belt and fighting. On the other hand there used to be times when fighting classes were looking for adamantite belts (as I have twice pointed out in the past) because sorcerers were using/hoarding some of them. A good solution would be to change the few adamantite/adamantine waist containers out there that have no ac to actual belts. I can think of three at the moment and more that are steel/tanso. Otherwise it will work as a nerf for shamans/rogues/swasies/bards.

edit: The change has already taken place so nevermind. :P

First, containers provide no protection in armor slots. If you're wearing a container in the waist slot you weren't getting any benefits.

This is what I said. The word 'few' was referring to the few waist containers, not the few waist containers that have no ac.

And I bet a naked giant merc with a giant siege crossbow/haste/frenzy can eat, once he has passed the intimidation check, any hellion for breakfast.

If there are steel scabbards for the waist, I feel that they should be bugged. Waist is meant to be an armor slot. If you wear a container on that slot, you are walking around with a completely unarmored belly. Are there people actually wearing that voluntarily right now?

I fail to see how a belt would protect the stomach, unless it has a massive sized belt buckle on it. That should fall to a shield and chest armour. The belt should be removed as an armour slot and move the void of the armour calculation towards the body armour and shield. Belts should be remade to be containers, as some are now, or just small stat holders, which some are as well. Keep belts without a restriction to who can wear what.

Honestly, a cursory look around at some of the wide range of waist items in play should make it pretty obvious which ones are 'armor' and which ones are 'containers.' If there's ambiguity in some cases [like a certain plated girth that's a container, mentioned earlier in this discussion], that's where having different uses for the 'waist' slot becomes a problem. In my view, that's probably the ONLY reason it presents one.

It's because you're thinking about modern day belts which are usually only an inch or so across. A lot of belts back in the old days were more like thick sashes and if you think about an armor plated sash that's about 5 inches or more wide, then you can start to see why it would protect the waist.

I don't see what's wrong with it as it is. Most of the SK world has been built with waist items made as both armor and container types. Let iti stay that way.
