Finney thank you for posting this, this is something that needs *a lot * of attention right now. I couldn't have worded it any better.

I agree, melee damage as it is, is quite overpowering. Two warriors ganging up on any solo target pretty much means death in >2 rounds for that target.

Seriously, Navelic dies like 2-3 times a day all he does is go get a steel khopesh again, and I see him just two round people with a horrible material non-enchanted one hander. They're arms are getting hacked off in the first round.

The game really is just tipped entirely in favor of melee at the moment, warriors can hack through charms and pets before order lag even allows a caster to attempt to cast a spell.

I'd be all for all the changes Finney listed, and possibly even a slight reduction in overall damage that weapons deal. The subtype system was meant to make combat last longer in general, if anything though it's sped combat up. In order to two or three round a GM merc/barb/swashy in the old code, you had to have some pretty elite weapons enchanted up the [REDACTED]. Now with every weapon as good as any other weapon of the same subtype, -every- warrior has the weaponry to destroy any PC in a matter of a couple rounds. It's ridiculous.

I don't think the weapon subtype system is to blame for the speeding up of combat.

There was a time when the giant strength spell was held in concentration by sorcerers.

Haste though, got a much needed nerf.

I also didn't think the enlarge/shrink thing over too well. Seeing as there are some exits that require you to change size to enter them the spell should also be able to change the size of exits, etc if it is changed.

Also, if auto assist were taken out then spells like sanctuary would have to be totally reworked.

If you only change enlarge to only affect weapons, it wouldn't effect any capabilities of entering certain rooms. Leave shrink alone and change enlarge as suggested and everything will be fine.

Keep the ability to resize people but make it so that your damage remains constant with your original size that way you can go through all entrances still with a little work but enlarge damage gets put in its place.

Melee damage right now is ridiculous if you take the time to get some spells cast on yourself. I could 2-3 round or quicker other mercs with a one-handed battle-whip when I was fully-prepped. I can only imagine what I would've been doing with a more "elite" specialize.

The whole weapon subtype system needs to be looked at IMO. If you look at the merc's in game and their specializes, that's 2 per merc. I bet you 75~% of those specializes are one of three weapons---> Kama/Khopesh/Battlespear.

Log of someone taking Hadaro to awful in one round...? Boggling.

I'll have to dig through some logs this afternoon when I get home from work. It happened a couple days ago at the Empire portal stones. My character and Andach engaged you at the stones, and it was basically my initial attack and the subsequent round.

I've had the same thing happen to my character. Whenever I engage in pkill, my character usually has hardened (22) constitution from a certain cabal spell and he also has max HP trained for a mercenary (19). None of that matters, though, because I can lose 50% of my HP in three to four hits.

There's just no skill involved in playing the game right now. You can literally kill any character, even those wearing enchanted heavy armor, in a single bash. If you have several melee characters, you don't even need a bash. Just a good opening round of auto assist melee spam.
