So anyways, getting this thread back on track, thanks for the thought-out reply Konge.

I would like to just re-affirm a point Konge mentioned already, even if triggers were used to time counterspells, it doesn't really matter, it'd be just like spamming it really, as I demonstrated you -will- run out of mana quickly doing such. Also like Konge pointed out, and I mentioned earlier, a smart player -will- realize when you have a trigger running, or are simply spamming counterspell and they can make you pay for it easily.

But enough about triggers, those aren't even a built in game feature, back to Counterspell please.

I use triggers to capture information. I use triggers to cause prompts. I use triggers that require commands to start working and shut off after X amount of time. I don't believe that triggers are illegal, per se. What is illegal is the automation of characters while you are doing other things. If I send you a tell and you don't respond for several minutes, you'll likely be put in Hell.

The punishment can be deletion. It has also been punished with losses of levels, loss of gear, and any combination of those two. I would recommend not using triggers unless you are certain you they won't fire if you go AFK. Tick timers are just the same as any other triggers. If you do not respond to a tell in a sensible amount of time, it is likely you will be punished for botting. The severity of the punishment is often related to the magnitude of the infraction.

Quoted for truth. Most of the triggers I use are echoes, simply because the bright teal makes visible what I would otherwise, potentially, have missed.

The only way that I can see this working if it was more like a preventative shield that can only be casted pre-combat and only while calm. Then there still should be some sort of check, otherwise.

Counterspell would never be implemented where latency was such a key factor. Rework the idea so that illegal triggers would not be such an advantage, and you might have a better chance.

Automating your character's actions = a bot. Bot = deletion, period. Sypher's jail example is a very clear cut case.

If you want to create a trigger, create one that highlights text, flashes a warning - whatever - as long as it doesn't send anything back to the MUD, you're fine.

I thought I read somewhere of another Imm saying as long as it kept you from afking while inputting whatever command, it was alright.

Whilst your sentence/scenario is a bit vague, I'll happily say "Nope." to that one.
