I don't see how it would be any more "I win" than the instant kill spells, or the abilities that force you to stay and fight a losing battle.

You can save versus all of those, you can save versus charm as well. The counter is simply have resistances.

You can still get out of such a situation in a perfectly valid, IC way. For example, you can send a tell to an ally (preferably one with access to summon) and say something like this:

Quote:
You tell to xx 'Greetings, there! You won't believe how friendly this new chap/lady I met is. Up to now, I thought him/her to be a sworn enemy, but I've completely re-evaluted my opinion. I think I'll never again leave their side.'

Now anyone with half a mind, will probably realise that this is an odd pattern of behaviour, assuming that the character does have some social contacts and will get the hint.

You actually can't get summoned away if you're charmed anymore, but Lolth is right, you can still send tells, reporting on your position to allies in a valid IC way like she demonstrated.

Limiting factors really are needed because 99% of the playerbase can't be trusted to RP a charm correctly. They immediately try anything and everything to disrupt their master.

This indeed sound convenient for the victim's case.
So basically the caster has to say:

"It's not a good idea to contact anyone mentally!"

...right after the charm takes effect.
-----------------------------

And yes it is overpowered if you are unable to do anything. You are at the mercy of the caster.

He can easily kill/junk/steal and all you can do is...Nothing. Why use FoD and petrification when you can use Charm with much less casting time/cost and higher success rate?

I agree that players who constantly sit/land/rest whatever to avoid being moved, will cause your temper to rise.

I understand that through Charm and Dominate you want to go through and RP a situation, but DO realize how hard it is for the charmed or dominated person to act appropriately.

Even in charm in D&D you cannot force a person to jump from a cliff or enter the Dragon's cave, for he means such will end his life, and self preservation kicks in dispelling the charm.

If you hardcode charm and allow the charmed or dominated person no options, it's a WIN spell. Allow charmed/dominated players to RP appropriately.

If I was charmed with Elriorith and someone started making me do things, I would play along. Yet the moment he would try to make me do something that would completely violate my moral ethics, say against my Lord or my Race for example, I feel entitled to a second saving throw. Just because this is not hard coded, I would display a certain lack of obedience to the one controlling me. I would surely make his life hell if I knew he would lead me into my death, say a Dragon's cave.

Sorry, but that's just the way I see it. Leave it as it is. If you feel the charmed or dominated one does not act accordingly for no good reason, send a log to an Imm.

Dont just HARDCODE everything, this is an RP game, not a Code game where lines of Code Collide!

But the whole issue is that charmed players do not rp up to the standard. If they were, we would not be discussing it now.

And I do not see the send log to an imm as a solution. When the charmed person tries to escape his master by any way, it is not bad rp, it is inexistent rp. In Dnd, you cannot leave your master by tricks like SIT,REST, why you should be able to do this in SK ? It is not hardcode EVERYTHING! It is hardcode it the correct way.

Leaving the charm person as it is now, it is like all the latest updates in charm person to go in vain. It is like equating the charm person of a player to a charm person of an npc: it can only be used in npcs.

This really limits one of the unique weapons the sorceror has.

Personally, I think tells and CB should be viable options while charmed. Say, emote, tell, CB, action, emote, pemote, these all seem like things a charmee should be able to do. Changing your position (sitting, standing, resting, sleep) should not really be possible. Anything that is a direct impediment to what your loving master asks of you seems pretty much a violation of what charm person is supposed to do. Anything you can do while prone, you should be able to do charmed. If its otherwise, I think that it should be prevented by charm person. If the save has to be altered, or perhaps a repeated save, every round or number of rounds, I'm fine with that trade.

I remember when I started playing SK I thought some kind of prisoner or forced enslavement RP would be really nifty, and I got excited when I found out about charm. I have had very little chance to follow through with that since I never seen to get charmed, but I stand by the idea that it seems really fun. Maybe I am just overly rp-oriented or have some kind of victim complex. It is really puzzling and annoying to me that people would willingly work against such RP when they get the chance. I would be willing to bet that it makes people less inclined to bother with anyone else, which means me. :(

I agree entirely.

I really like the idea of charm person having a chance to break every certain period of time. Please consider that.

A few months ago, my character was charmed by a hostile sorceress, and she held her around for 45 minutes. It was frustrating; the whole time she was stripping and threatening to junk all, meanwhile her partner planned to drown my character and/or drop over city. That's pretty much what charm person 'roleplay' comes down to these days.

On a side note I am surprised no one has mentioned the popular 'resort' other than sit and rest. In several logs, albeit a few of them by the same player, the charmed player character simply attacked whatever that was in front of them. That behavior is difficult to deal with too.
