A few months ago, my character was charmed by a hostile sorceress, and she held her around for 45 minutes. It was frustrating; the whole time she was stripping and threatening to junk all, meanwhile her partner planned to drown my character and/or drop over city. That's pretty much what charm person 'roleplay' comes down to these days.

Hrm. That does sound pretty bad. I always imagined it would be more fun to threaten things that would harm the character more than grief the player. Golden rule and whatnot. But then, my ideas on RP come from a much less PK-obsessed place.

You know I generally agree with most of the things you have to say, but that is probably the most [REDACTED] thing I've heard in a while.

I've only ever charmed players to make them stop being idiots, and when they failed to RP the fact that they were charmed, thats when I've screwed with them.

It it by no means an 'I win' spell and can lead to some good RP if both parties behave older than 12 yr olds.

There are far more cruel things to do to players that make the game less fun, and have NO chance for RP.

When you realise that this mud have seen enough "charm", through staves mostly...Creating havoc and inconsistency to combat tactics;

When you realise that charm has been used mostly OOCly by most sorcerors.

When you realise how much QQ has already produced through-out the years, then it might not appear so [REDACTED].

I seem not to care actually, I'm more curious if you picked the same word for [REDACTED] as I did

Part of the problem is that there's no set standard on what charmee RP should be. For example, I've heard an immortal say that cancellation potions are perfectly fine, on the basis of PvP tactics and balance. And if we accept that, where do you draw the line? A "help charm" file would be an asset to the game. Mechanical solutions should only come after it's decided what's valid.

For example, it might be decided that while a charmee would fight his friends to protect his beloved, he'd avoid killing. Switching a charmee to mode stun when he's charmed might then be appropriate.
