Even if magma needed a buff (which is questionable*), it shouldn't be something so big. I agree with the "ignore the mp for the after magma affects" to make them deal dmg again. Some people yell that with a 50 mp suit you get no dmg. Since when the best of players/equipment are the criteria for changing a spell. Shouldn't be the average player/items and why not the newbies too? Or you have seen more than a couple of characters going against magma with a 50 mp suit or better?

Here is the old magma against a character with 30 mp suit with seldarith's shield up, no racial weakness, no berserk and if not more then the same hp pool with a giant warrior.

Code:
[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE: 98%]

A willow-thin male elf utters the words, 'eugszr waouq'.
A willow-thin male elf fades into existence.
A salty male gnome utters the words, 'waowa gsgrul'.
A salty male gnome fades into existence.
A salty male gnome unleashes a torrent of magma on you, charring your flesh severely!
That really did HURT!
You howl in agony as the magma clings to your body!

[HP: 71%] [ME:100%] [PE: 98%]

[add a round here]

[HP: 71%] [ME:100%] [PE: 98%]
Your pulse races as you are consumed by rage!
Your fury knows no bounds!
Your skin blackens from the unquenchable magma.
You unconcernedly brush away the waves of magma that you called forth.

[HP: 91%] [ME: 77%] [PE: 91%]

We're talking about hundreds of hps with mp and shield and everything. It's the only qq I have seen lately for some time that I find it reasonable. It's even obvious with the excess of warlocks I have seen the last days. Reminds me the crossbow merc thing we had a few months ago. :-?

The only way to resist harm is MR, and it is affected by MP, it does not have an actual "save" though, which is probably what you're thinking of.

For those of you who haven't thought about it yet, this boost to magma is also a buff to magically resistant races since their racial damage soak still works on it.

Yes folks, that means that delves got a buff.

It is also, in a round about sense, a nerf to humans.

Tell you what I'd like to see is dwarves got elemental toughness, making them resistant to elemental based attacks...some crap about drunks working at forges able to withstand heat better or something...or being made from stone...whatever. This would apply to petrify and acid blast too.

I was actually pondering a buff to dwarves myself today, something in the lines of just a flat out hp bonus somehow was my idea, but quite frankly I like this wayyyy better.

I like the way you think.

Can anyone tell me a simple logic argument why magma of all damage spells ignores MP? Anyone? Only Achernar tried, but his logic was totally flawed.

D-A wtf. It's a FANTASY GAME, logic has nothing to do with anything. How do you LOGICALLY explain being able to die and be brought back to life?

Except, obviously, the change to magma is more a buff to high hp classes/races than it is a buff to magically resistant races. Deep-elves were not really 'buffed' by this change.

Not that it matters one bit, but for the record, most spells transform magical energy directly into damaging energy or elements. On the other hand, magma spray uses magic to create a tiny gate to deep within the earth. Real magma sprays out due to the pressure differential. That's why magic resistance has never worked and why MP doesn't work now.
