I've got a question about the character deletions after 30 days of not playing. Im in the US navy and Im going underway for about that long and I really like the char im using, and kinda don't want to start over how would I go about keeping it....

PM Dulrik, he'll more than likely freeze the character for you, or something along those lines.

Well, seeings how allowing another player to login with your character is a violation of the rules I'm not sure what to tell you.

I think its more than 30 days though.

Also, if you have access to any machine with an internet connection during that time you can use built-in windows telnet client to connect to reset the deletion timer.

Just go to 'Start' - > 'Run' -> then type 'telnet mud.shatteredkingdoms.org 1996' in the box and click 'OK'

Depending on echo settings it might not look like your typing, but if you enter char name and pass you will be able to get logged in...then quickly quit because trying to play with telnet is miserable.

Just talk to Dulrik. :P He should be fairly understanding with military service.

Thanks Ill do that, and the telnet idea would work...but the navy and their lovely security coding doesn't allow me to access SK because, the server blocks just about anything that isn't military related.

No, we won't move the port.

I've had this question before. I don't freeze characters for any reason. You are guaranteed to still have your character for 30 days. After that it all depends on when you last played and the frequency of updates. If you have a trusted friend who can log you on and log you off again for 1 second every 30 days, that will keep your character from being deleted (although you will eventually lose all your good items).

Note that doing this is against the rules. And that's all I'll say about it.

I read that and thought of this:

Ayn Rand wrote:
Do you think that we want those laws to be observed? We want them broken. There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers.

I was just trying to be helpful. But I won't advocate breaking the rules.

I recommend you log on once every 30 days if you want to be sure you keep your character. If that's not something you can do because you don't have access, then you should be prepared to let the guy go or hope you get lucky with that grey (gray?) area inbetween 30-60 days.
