Don't they actually do something similar to that? With forest fires?

Magic resistance is a specific term referring to MR.

The effect of MR is to create an area around your body that has little to no ambient magic, which is why it works on almost all spells. The song of magic is concentrating the ambient magic in the environment, therefore even people who have resistance are more easily affected than before.

This is a different concept than saving throws and art. Increasing your saving throw is making your body and mind tougher or more able to dodge the affects of magic attacks directed at you. Increasing your art improves your skill and "accuracy" at wielding those spells. Neither of them is attempting to modify the ambient amount of magic nearby.

Some might argue that having their MR reduced is a good thing. xxx reduction to magical resistence is a thing thats been requested on items by the playerbase. Only Sorcs and Necro's actually desire MR. Well except for a dwarf barb I know of that is a complete n00b. (thats right, I said it.)

It would be very useful if you were fighting an MR necro or the like.

And Jardek, I wasn't trying to make an applicable analogy, I was just screwing around. But I've played many games where there actually was a magical spell that nullified magic for a time, or in a certain area. The "logic" behind MR doesn't have to make perfect sense from every angle... it's magic. It also makes perfect sense to me.

Then why did you apply the analogy? You make me cry.

See?

If a necro is stacking MR they are also running around with a GM spell ward. Whatever reduction you get from songs of magic isn't going to do squat.

Also, I doubt the intention of songs of magic is to affect 1% of your enemies in a negative manner, while aiding the rest your enemies tremendously(by reducing your enemies MR it only makes it easier for them to get healed).

And it raises the level of all spells cast in the room...So yeah, that'd help an MR caster, lol.

I'm not sure I've ever seen Songs of Magic used for anything besides to help enchant armor.

It doesn't help that. Nor does it help brewing, or scribing.

There are a few songs that are worth singing. The rest are essentially useless, only worth knowing/mastering if you intend to try to learn all the non-lost songs a bard can learn.

Normally I'd just let people believe whatever they want, but pointing out that OA was wrong in his last post is just too tempting. I will console myself by not pointing out which things he is wrong about.

Theres only one thing he said that he could be wrong about, the other things he said are his opinion. Thanks for clarifying that though, I would have believed him!
