I didn't notice that...It's pretty funny.

But it's sort of true! The melee damage from that magical item would beat the melee damage from 1 PC.

Which is...sort of like magic item > melee, right!

I can't believe anyone would try to argue that melee damage comes close to as strong as using magical items. Items like animate dead wands, and overpowered stave's absolutely [REDACTED] on melee any day of the week and there's more than enough to go around.

Yeah, huge difference between the FoD stave that has a save, and melee damage that in the long run, really doesn't.

FoD stave can hit 100 people. Melee can only hit one at a time. Unless you're a super awesome swashie.

Yeah, I remeber there were 100 people in the who list.

They were all in the same room at the same time, and all of them outside of my group.

I brandishied an aggro stave and it outright killed 3 of them(OMG OVERPOWERED!!)

Then I quickly died to the other 97 I was engaged in combat with.

Great example. Congrats!

Actually Syn I've PKed a lot more than you during the last month! :o Even after the locate change there is a log of me soloing a Hammer barbarian.

WOW! You must really suck lately, don't you? :P

And to answer to Dulrik's question, do you really want combat to turn out to be that fast? I thought you wanted battles to last longer than 2-3 rounds for everyone to use more tactics in their battles, other than a few spam bashes or something.

I have no problem with the change that you say should happen, but I still think the overall damage must be generally lowered. This change will make battles last even less nowadays, so unless you then cut down overall damage of melee and spellcasting by 30% or so anyway, most PvP will be who gets a fast gank on the other either by some sick melee(through offensive buffs like frenzy, fury etc and big opening attacks) or through sick spellcasting(even by using the unique items Algon speaks about - although I really think well enchanted armor will still be able to almost nullify most damage done, I mean I'll get 3% dmg from half saved SoF or acid instead of 2% as a char with less than 600 HPs).

PS: I like how Syn QQs about people having elite EQ. I'll give her a hint though. Don't spam die to be able to hold that stuff on your char! :o

The change Dulrik mentioned is very interesting, and would make it so that offensive spells still did some semblance of damage even when saved against. I like it. Although like DA it would speed combat up a bit more. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing that change implemented to enhance casters a bit, then see -all damage- lowered equally across the board by the same ratio, so that combat was lengthed a bit more. Casters get a bit of a boost in their spellcasting department, and combat is longer in general.

Even if combat isn't lengthed, I'd like to see Dulrik's intended change in action.

Look at it like this.
If melee damage is wimped, so is animate dead/control undead/charm.
That'll be worse for necromancers than for sorcs, since their undead are their damage givers. A sorc can still charm his enemies.

Wait a second, didn't Dulrik remove all those GM staves that Gilgon is probably talking about.

I'm fairly certain he said something during the magma QQ discussion that the FoD/Magma/Chain lightning staves should never have been created and have/should be removed.

Chain lightning staves suck. :o
As for the Magma stave, that should be soooo much harder to get.
That it's actually held by someone means it's waay too easy to get as is.
Basically, what I'm saying is I'm fine with any really really dangerous items, as long as they're so hard to get it's almost not worth it (emphasis on the almost). :P
