First of all, obviously throwing daggers aren't going to be jacked. Especially when thrown by a caster. That's why it's an "early level" thing, so that when your priest is running around at Weak Str and getting his one mace hit on every NPC he can get a little extra umph in with one of the only other weapons he knows... and that is one class that has nothing better to do with the combat interval for a long time. Admittedly less useful for warlocks. Still, if you run out of ME, it lets you go the distance if you want to say, beat a repop in the Outpost or something. Regardless these are little teeny daggers. Nobody should be racking up kills in this game throwing little daggers and shurikens at people. As far as subtypes go, you know that daggers are already a very weak one, and the "throwing" version of most weapons in this game is generally weaker than the other ones... so going into mid-level and up it's obviously going to drop significantly in usefulness, while your spells become far more powerful than your melee attack.

Obviously damage-wise these weapons are most useful for warrior classes and any weapon that allows a warrior to fight effectively from or reach an enemy's 3rd row shouldn't be ultra powerful. I think the current way works just fine. It's kind of a specialty move for special situations and plans, not really something that's meant to be your mainstay attack. Throwing a boulder is like that too. It's a boulder, you don't carry 20 of them in a little satchel to skirmish people with.

And hey, crossbows should penetrate armor and do insane damage, if we want to be accurate. Longbows too. But then the game would degrade into skirmish wars. The English and the Mongolians, among others, figured that out pretty fast. They're still quite effective against casters and the like, and I think it's just fine that they don't do insane damage to people in ada.

So that leaves us with Throwing spears are good in PK as a viable use for throwing weapons to the playerbase. That seems like an awfully small portion of the game to me. Considering only two classes that get the 'spear' skill also get 'skirmish' That means two classes in the entire game have one use for throwing weapons.

I was a barb with no skirmish. Why would I throw javelins if I am a scout?

Also the auto fire works but you have to have the throwing weapons in your inventory. If you have them in a backpack, you won't throw any either you have auto fire on or off.

If you have auto fire on you get a number of attacks depending on your class. If not, you throw one every time you type the command. Much much slower and according to Dulrik you spend more PE.

Throwing spears are not limited. NPCs carry them and merchants sell them. You can buy enough to do your job.

I was medium size and I was hitting their wimpy every time. Imagine being giant throwing giant spears. Props also to Dulrik for adding the sling. It was the perfect thing to combine it with the other projectile weapons. Just like the throwing weapons it is useful at times if you are a barb with no other means to reach third row people who have ridiculous hp.

I'm not quite sure what the complaint is. Thrown weapons will be useful for some races/classes in some situations. It may also be a question of personal preference. And what NPCs you're using to level, and where they are.

I found that a large-size caster with decent str and second attack, levelling well away from convenient Inns, could extend his levelling endurance by mixing in a sack of daggers in the low-mid level regime. I never had a problem with NPCs using said daggers to rip apart my pet. Worked for me.

There's obviously PK applications as well.

Thrown weapons seem useful enough to me. Your mileage may vary.

Peace,
Bux
