I think banishment would be fine in the hands of a tribunal leader if bounty NPCs were removed and there was a way for certain classes to trick vendors into selling to them (with a chance of failure).

You'd need to tweak certain kingdoms to have better guards (e.g., Zhenshi) and put a bit of AI in to the static guards in cities to move toward attackers, but it would be much more realistic and fun, IMO.

Agreed, although I think you overstate the amount of changes needed to make this system work.

Go to jail with both substandard gear and substandard wealth, triple sd for 48 rl hours.
Get broken out of jail, all penalties are doubled and any new penalties are tacked on.
Or we could leave it alone?
Sophistry is fine when I use it.

Or we could allow banish to be used on anyone and forgo all of these idiotic ideas that would solve nothing.

I think the ability you're looking for is deathmark.

I'm not, but thanks. Deathmark's problem was that it wasn't permanent and required cabal/tribunal leaders to constantly be online to reapply them. Banish being changed would eliminate that problem.

Alshain's idea fails actually, because it's so easy to twink it. There are numerous champ+ lvl items that are quite common and quite useless. Skins come to mind first of all. Someone might just collect 20 of these items, turn himself in, get confiscated what the game recognises as a high lvl full EQ suit and then instantly get out with no days in prison, get back his things and walk freely in said kingdom.

But isn't that part of (effectively) bribing your way out of jail? Okay, so the judge has some silly taste in trinkets (or maybe after some usage Dulrik could tweak the scale or item types to be worth more or less), but at least it'd be more IC and contribute to the coffers of the law enforcement more than the whole 'walk in naked' concept that we're trying to deal with.

Are there other proposed solutions that are amenable?

edit: judge, not jailor

Lower the jail time generally in all kingdoms, so things are balanced(as it is now Exile/Sith/Nerina have the more harsh penalties for the players, where NW/Menegroth are too easy).

Then add minor XP penalties at getting caught, with a rather large XP penalty at getting executed. This way you can prevent those that spam surrender themselves to twink the system and avoid banishment.

Of course for this to work, you shouldn't make levelling any easier than what it already is.

Execution should = character dead 4 life, can't be brought back.

That's funny, I never understood why people thought you were [REDACTED]... Thanks for clearing that up.

Deathmark's real problem was this.

You tell (The MC leader of the time) 'Greetings.'

MC replies 'Greetings.'

You tell MC 'I would like to talk to you. '

You have been deathmarked in the Empire of the bright star.

You tell MC '...What was this for?'

MC replies 'Just in case you decide to try anything.'
