Which is one reason I suggested Trance instead, since Trance can only fire when in the resting/sleeping position.

OA has a great point, Trance would be a better solution than meditate.

Trance is more advanced than meditation. I don't see a reason why they should receive either anyway.

If you're in desperate need of mana all you need to do is visit a healer and heal energise.

It's always been abjectly [REDACTED] to me that a caster can find it easier to regain mana at an advanced rate no matter what they're doing than they can while resting.

However, just because Trance is considered "more advanced" doesn't mean it would be less balanced to give it to bards. It would be considerably more balanced, in fact, than meditation, which as thunder pointed out, would be potentially extremely unbalancing to songs of healing.

You're right that it's still a rather sketchy proposal in the first place, though.

Bards are adventurers (not clerics or casters) so their melee capability is not an accident, IMO. Nerfing their combat skills in favor of meditation is a short-sighted take on the class as a whole. The mana drain is already manageable if you are careful about your song choice and timing. Also, songs are not the only thing a bard is good for in a group.

Meditation combined with songs of healing would turn a bard into a practically infinite hp/mana/move battery too.

Well if you are affraid they would become a infinite mana battery then I'd be fine getting trance instead, either way they should not get both. Taking away fast healing wouldn't nerf any of their combat skills being that they can heal themselves through song.

Bards are not suppose to be a front row fighting class, they are a second row support class. This is not a short-sighted observation, because I've played multiple bards in the past, and I know from experience that losing fast healing in exchange for some sort of mana regen would not nerf the class.

I'm mostly looking for better regen rates when resting, not in combat so trance might actually be a better idea then what I was thinking last night when I first posted. I forgot about the regen added by meditation while fighting, which was an oversight on my part.

I've had the luxury of being in a party with two bards at once fridgeraider.

They can supply infinite hps and mana to the group by taking turns.

I'm not in support of this idea.

At any one time lately, quite a few, but most don't last very long.

I've mentored two bards under level 20 in the last day, and upwards of almost ten in the last three months. That excludes the three higher-level, established bards that I can think of off the top of my head, knowing there's at least one or two I'm not remembering at the moment.
