I *think* all he meant was that taunt -DESTROYS- a dominating hellion's concentration. And so it makes him a sad panda. Otherwise...

I suppose you're suggesting the hellion deafen himself before fighting a swashbuckler?

That idea really only has merit if the hellion + his dominate can take a swashbuckler in melee combat. I'm not so sure if the majority of them can.

Which is sad, really. Hellions have all the attack power of a mercenary without 4th attack, specialize, or rallying cry. Since very few mercenaries are smart enough to use rallying cry, and most mercenaries don't even use weapons that hit 4th attack, it's like fighting a merc with an unspecialized weapon.

A decent merc with an unspecialized weapon can beat any swash if they are both buffed. Beyond that, add a dominate into the mix, who will do even more damage than the hellion because it's a fury'd level 38-40 barbarian with a 2h weapon.

Swash is a good class for crappy players to be very useful to a group, but it isn't a class for anyone else.

God, what a newb! And what about the huge difference of HPs between a hellion and a mercenary or a swash?!

The swash will parry/riposte most of the hellion's attacks and own him big time.

What about the heavy armor bonus, access to far many more weapon types, cleave, access to more powerful buyable pets...?

The swash would get raped by any hellion of even relatively close skill level in mechanics/pk.

I dunno if a swash lands a taunt the hellions int goes to hell and even more so from taking melee dmg. The only way a hellion would have a chance is to spam hellfire.

If the swash lands the taunt he deals with a hellion who is doing way more melee damage than he normally does, to begin with. Furthermore - if the hellion has a dominate and is going against the swash, he needs to deafen. If he is going against the swash with just a pet + him vs the swash + pet, its going to be difficult, but I still think the hellion has the edge, at that point it really just comes down to eq and inventory.

Hellions destroy swashbucklers and they don't even need a dominate.

Maledicted weapon bring a swashi's str and dex down to reasonable levels and if you blind a swashi, his weapon accuracy goes to absolute sheet.

Open up with an aim mid cleave and if you can hit an arm you've pretty much already won the fight since that arm will be mangled soon. Any hellion riding a nightmare will not be able to be tripped. The only thing a swashi can do is taunt. A taunted hellion can still cast hellfire and that puts out more damage than the swashi does.

Or a landy hellion can stay second row and blind/maledict the swashi while having his nightmare bash him. After a good cleave and some hellfire, most swashis drop in a few rounds.

Now a really really really really enchanted out the tail and juiced up swashi can be troublesome. All you have to do though is deafen yourself and keep riding in an out and repeat cleaving him until you either get a lucky crit, mangle an arm, or the swashi gets tired of gambling and leaves.

No prepared hellion should ever lose to a swashbuckler.
