That impression was mistaken, and I'm not sure why you'd have it. Taunt has always forced you to focus on the swash, but you were free to retarget afterwards.

This is true. And at the same time everyone forgets two important things. First the mp and half save changes greatly wimped the class because the swashbuckler doesn't have the hp pool of a merc/barb (my swasie was immune to hellfire in the beginning and in the end I was getting 15% from SoF with a better suit). And second the swashbuckler unlike the other warriors has to stay in the front row to do anything. And to make it worse you can't trip anyone since everyone is flying. This class is not a support class. Even the shamans who are supposed to be support can cast sleep and spirit horde to hold someone. But if you want to kill with a swasie you have to land a taunt and that's it. Even with my barb I found more ways to kill my targets.

It's funny that everyone here thinks that playing this class is a walk in the park and at the same time they support in other threads that the merc/barb can kill a swasie with no hands. Bring the old lag and just wimp the chance of many vs 1. Every three months a class is wimped because someone dies and starts the qqing. As if you won't play the class in the future.

Meh. Once again an argument stating that swashbucklers are basically crap without being overcompensated for by that singular skill.

"Swashbucklers are garbage and deserve a way to stop people, so let's let them stop people in any row, and make it last until they get stuck in first row, and let's make it a nearly saveless and costless skill that happens instantly. Swashbucklers are still garbage but at least they're a commodity in small formations because of that one overly powerful skill."

I agree, it's rough that they get stuck in first row as a warrior class. But mercs and barbs don't exactly kill people by reaching... they do it to people in first row, after bashing them. Hence my wish for a first-row trapping taunt. Hell, make it trap every character in the first row. Even that would be more reasonable.

Whatever though, I've more or less said my share. :drunk: Time to put up the white flag.

Yes they do. If you get your 2h and stay behind the tribunal NPC or your pet (both flying and both can bash) then you can just wait for the swasie to kill the pet and reach you when he has 70% of his initial hp. At that point you just bash;land;bash.

Yes but he has to stay first row to deal dmg with both the tribunal NPC and the merc focused on him. He is really dead but is he survives then he should take the upper hand with and taunt and kill the merc.

Note: I use the word merc because any barb (after the berserk/weapon changes) who finds a first row swashbuckler should yell "party" and run towards the poor man with the swords.

I won't even comment on casters who can bash and then cast the hell on you. Pyras bashed and magmaed Feanor 11 times behind a tribunal NPC and a fire elemental and you suggest that when he started losing he could just walk away? Any sorc could do that with a charmie and acid blast. Or necro. And of course the shaman who can make a swasie to start crawling until the point he is reached. Even the scouts with arrows that the the swashbuckler can't block in any way have a good chance. First row is death in sk and the only class that really has to stay there is the swasie. So yes you should be rewarded with something good.

ps: I still agree that lowering the chance of landing a taunt in many vs 1 situations is a good thing.

I am still of the opinion that taunt should have a 10% chance to delete the victim's pfile.

Dulrik, the problem with taunt is that it's usually only used to keep you in the room until your pet dies, then your in the front row and the swashie's buddy(ies) bash you, and even if you do get out of the taunt...you're screwed anyways.

I disagree, there are many effective tactics to quickly (taunt is by no means quick) expose people in the back rows - taunt already has a penalized success-rate when the swash is in a group.

Again, it seems that the primary beef with the skill is using taunt in conjunction with other classes - lower the successrate when the target is outnumbered would be fine with me, but gimping taunt would gimp the solo swashes. It is an essential skill for them.

Taunt isn't an essential skill for them at all, people who think swashies can't land kills without taunt are noobs and obviously have lost grasp of the chasing aspect of pk which is completely defiled by taunt.
