Going off of what fluff said, a small variant. Since the game tracks how many hrs your play, you make so that once the mentor, if you don't have (choosing arbitrary number) 75 hrs on the char, you only get half-xp (still arbitrary), if you are at champion and you don't have 125hrs, you get half-xp. It will still allow people to gain xp, but will make a huge enticement w/o actually restricting them. Once again, all of the numbers above are completely arbitrary.

Master lvl bards needs persuasion and songs fixed so that work more effectively on gm chars.

This is so [REMOVED]. Dont require levels to require hrs. Some people dont even get to play that much and when they do they spend their time leveling their characters if they aren't GM. Making them spend more time on the game just to be able to level decent will just make it worst.

If you noticed what I said, it would only happen to get from Master through GM. So, instead of lvling through those, those people can still grind if they want to but the enticement is to actually RP.

This is actually what I have been trying to get at for a while. As I was saying earlier, you have two types of SKers, the RP kind and the PK kind. Now I know there is nothing wrong with PK and there is certainly nothing wrong with RP by any means (RP GAME  ). The fact of the matter is... RP is slowly being washed away from this game bit by bit and replaced my PKers who only want to kill to get the phat lewt. Something needs to be done, whether it be slow the lvling down or the IMMs need to start punishing those who aren't RPing. It is not a choice whether you want to RP or not, this is a RPing game and you should be treating it as such. You can't just RP when it is convenient for you and PK the rest of the time. I know "blaming" the IMMs typically never gets anyone anywhere, but that is not what I am doing when I say this.

Well, the limit could be aimed at character age, which progresses when offline. So if you say you need to be 18 for champion, and 20 for GM, then the occasional players get to be unaffected, and it still stops people from suddenly appearing as magically created GMs.

While that idea seems nice in theory, there is an immediately obvious cheat. There's nothing to stop players from making some level 1 concept characters every few weeks and letting them age up while they are playing something else. Then once it hits whatever the required age is, they can grind it up as usual.

I will grant they will have less time to play this character before they start to acquire age penalties, but we want greater continuity of characters in the game and this might make it even less.

I've yet to see this supposed trend of RP being replaced by PK. Furthermore, you can't categorize players into RPers and PKers, there is a great deal who enjoy both. It is, after all, a mud where tactic and roleplay collide.

This game is whatever we the players make it to be. Of course, certain things are out of our control, but that doesn't mean you'll let those things affect the way you play the game. You can always be the one to set an example and be a person people enjoy playing and roleplaying with.

Time restrictions on leveling are just crazy CRAZY. They won't help in any way, shape or form, in fact they would only be a detriment to the game. Stop this crazy talk!

Ive gm'd only one time. That was an accomplishment and took about 80 hrs.

Aerlyn was my first GM and was over 1000 character hours when I took her to train that last advancement. Never really was important to me.

How about instead of punishing fast levelers, give a boost to the slow ones? If you exceed a certain # of hours in gaining levels, give an xp boost for the next few levels. I have no clue if it's possible to keep track of that sort of thing, but another encouragement to enjoy the game as a gestalt instead of compartmentalizing leveling, rp, pk, exploring, what have you.

I could go for this idea just as easily I suppose. I see room for loopholes in this idea though. The problem with any idea is like that of a thief. For every one thing you think of to keep them from getting your stuff, they have already thought of four ways to get around said thing.

*Disclaimer: I only read the first page.

There is never going to be a leveling system that makes everyone happy. If you speed leveling up so everyone can make GM in a relatively quick manner, you'd have people bitching about how leveling isn't a challenge. If the front end of leveling is made easier and the back end harder, like it is now there will be complaining that the system only caters to veterans who know how to level. If you make the back end easier and the front end harder, there will be complaining that the system isn't newbie friendly.

No leveling system is ever going to win universal popularity. I've seen more changes to leveling than I can count, and I'm sure many more will come, not a single one pleased everybody. The one perk I see with this system as opposed to other ones, is it fits with Dulriks vision of a master character being a complete character. If that's the case it should be quite difficult to get GM.

Arelgama: True, but until you decide to live in a concrete box with all openings sealed off in a forgotten location on the moon, you just have to accept that thieves happen on occasion, and this is why we have police.

Alright. I haven't read ANY of the things previous to this, but I do agree, it is frikin hard. I'm Master(5) with not the greatest CHA. But me and my training buddy completely took out the big tough warrior groups in the CoH plus the berserkers and what not, just not the spell casters. Then I got enlightened later, and then I just completed a quest. And I STILL haven't gotten one tick. Its really starting to make me angry.
