You are missing the main difference (in this instance) between WoW and SK. In WoW, there is infinite money and infinite goods. In SK, there is finite money and finite goods.

Which you pay for the items with stabs to the stomach, not with gold. Gold is nearly useless in SK while in WoW it is not.

Your point?

its funny that people have threads complaining that things cost too much, but then there's another thread on these forums that money is too easy to make.

Which is it?

Is there too much money or are things too expensive?

Give people a thousand dollars and they'll complain that it wasn't two thousand.

It's both at the same time, I guess.

Since, the said item is gone now. I think I can use it as a reference.

Let's say that I got the staff of demise (unique item in the world). Let's say that I want to make sure that no one ganks me for the item. I will put it in the auction house and set the price to the maximum possible.

In wow, if I want a really kick butt item. I just grind it until it drops, or grind the money and buy it.

In WoW, you can't put soulbound items on the auction house which is usually any "kickbutt" item. I think the auction house idea for SK would be horrible, for the record, since no one sells stuff on SK. SK is all about bartering when it comes to people, not actual selling. "You do this for me, I'll do this in return.", "We're in the same group, so I'll do this for you."

I'm not even going to get into the argument of how those unique items are stupid in the first place.

This is a bit offtopic, but in WoW people will kill you just because you're there even if they get 0 anythings from doing it and only delay you 5 minutes, so of course people in SK are going to grief since you can junk loot and force them to take up to an hour to revive in the first place.

Comparing the two is a lot like comparing EVE to Ultima Online; I fail to see the point in it.

Until there's an actual reason for gold in SK, saying there's only a limited amount of it and that it's hard to get is ultimately a waste of time because there's so little to DO with it beyond learning skills. There are other problems I'd like to see addressed first that people might actually notice, honestly.

The point of this post was to brainstorm a way to make money more needed. I am fine vetoing the auction house idea because it reduces character interaction. The idea I'd like is to have a warehouse to store items in that you can sell to players. Herbs, potions, scrolls, ammo, etc. Things players can make right now. It would be simple, I suppose, to limit the kinds of items that can be stored there. The "unique" items or whatever would be on the top of that list. Just a thought. (Hint: I'm trying to refocus this conversation.)

Short of Dulrik adding trade skills, NPCs that sell stuff actually useful other than when leveling or doing something stupid like having to pay guards to get into cities, only the players can make gold needed. Shamans get potions, mages get scrolls, priests (and mages too) get enchantments, scouts get herbs and make ammo, everyone else can kill stuff, I've just never seen one try to sell these things. In fact, I'd imagine some people would kill them just for asking them to pay in the first place.

I'm fine with money not meaning a thing in SK since it's ultimately just one more thing to be annoyed with.

With scroll and flask prices up, you might start seeing people risking life and limb for a profit, though. Then only cabals and tribunals will have easy access to those overpowered scrolls you all love so much in shoot-first-ask-later group PKs.

Does anyone else see the WoW gold advertisement to the right that asks:
"Can you make 25,000G in two days?"

Ah, the irony.

I bought that book. It just says, "I sold a thousand people this book and then payed a gold-farming site for it with the profits."

So, Dulrik, any plans on adding more fun stuff to the game in the somewhat-near future?
