I think the trouble for most people is FINDING said low level undead. Or I could be wrong and people just try to beat their way to jman/mentor.

I have to admit, the low level undead are hard to find and really easy to get yourself killed while getting there.

Having Grandmastered my first shaman in less than one hundred and twenty hours of work, I would have to disagree with the original post and a few subsequent posts.

Shamans are just as easy to level as any other class up to journeyman, with these new changes to leveling. I will admit that the worst part about the shaman class is getting from veteran to Mentor. I too was thoroughly fed up when I could do more than a tick per hour in between those status'.

It is not however, the worst of the classes to level. If anything, that three status break in between one's path to grandmastership makes the player more inclined to keep their character, since they have invested so much more effort to get the character to where it will eventually end up...should they ever reach the status of mentor.

My suggestion to the initial poster is to meet people. I leveled much better in groups than I did alone after Journeyman. Become good friends with priests. Not only does leveling become less boring, but it really does help move you along faster if you know how to utilize your spells list.

One newb explaining to other newbs that leveling your shaman is easy as long as you join the fist...comedy.

The key to xping any class is maximizing your damage, not learning any skills/spells other than the absolute essentials (maybe 2-3 spells total), and knowing how to get to the leveling zone you want to get to.

Yes, leveling a shaman/priest can seem unfair because only a small portion of the mud knows where to find loads of 'good' undead leveling areas. That basically is only undead halfling village (extremely difficult for newbs to find), mummies in morea (not plentiful but a great spot) and cursed woods (but quite difficult for the average player to xp there without dying).

My recommendation is to level your shaman/priest in much the same way you would level a warrior. Find the highest damage, slowest weapon you can wield. Find means to enchant it if you can. Sit on mood aggressive, aim upper, frenzy, and spam xp without ever having to rest. Until you become a lamo veteran/twink, this is the best and soundest way to level.

This is the way I've leveled all my priests to j-man (Aneira well past because it took her forever to get invested). It's boring, but it works. If you find yourself taking enough damage to have to rest, get a pet and have it stand next to you in the front row. Order it to start the combat. Switch back and forth between you taking damage and your pet and you shouldn't have to rest. With the way enchant works now, there's no reason not to ask a priest/sorc to put a few enchants on your weapon either.

I would correct Gilgon and say your aim position is irrelevant. SK is not a game where you get XP per kill, so killing a NPC faster just means you are spending more time looking for your next fight.

One of the first things I learned when playing the mud back in the day, was that you recieved less xp once the mod was either immobile or lost it's ability to fight back - being loss of limbs.
Dunno if this is completely incorrect and a stupid myth I kept with me for no reason at all ;)
If it holds true - then aiming upper would give you more xp overall, no?

I've been under the same impression for 6 years or so. No limbs=no more xp. Is that wrong?

Huh? Killing a NPC faster means that you can kill more NPCs in the same amount of time. That means if you xp with aim upper and are able to kill 110 NPCs in 1 hour, versus someone else aiming mid and killing 100 NPCs, you are xping 10% faster.

Boggling at your logic.
