I know, right?! Shame on me. Jon and I have different opinions of what's forgivable and what isn't sometimes but I'm still as uptight about sticking to the rules and ooc/ic whatnots as when people hated my face for it in the past. I'm a ninny like that. :P

Maybe bree didn't know about the backstab bug. Either way, he saw someone die to a ridiculous bug, then decided to full loot them. imo, that's as bad as purposefully abusing the bug.

Every veteran knows that he knew about the bug. The claim that he didn't doesn't even deserve a response, haha.

Don't include me in this so-called bracket of "veterans" because they're all newbs.

Yeah, he probably knew about the bug. My point is that it doesn't matter either way. He knew it was a bug when he saw 6+ backstabs against Eziri, so taking from the corpse is, in fact, abusing a bug knowingly. There should have been a -very- stiff penalty for this, and there shouldn't have even been a discussion on whether he knew about the bug in advance.

Didn't he lose levels and the leadership skill? That's pretty strong.

For killing someone who was fully eq'd and hadn't died in ages? He lost a level and the leadership skill. I would take that punishment to gank a player of my choice.

There should never be a time when the crime has more reward than the punishment.

Leveling in SK makes me want to kill myself, had I known about this bug I would have abused it myself.

Haha, as I was reading this thread, I was thinking to myself, hell I might actually come back to SK if it was possible to level to GM in a few hours. I don't really blame them for abusing a bug like that. After you've GM'd several characters like they have leveling just kills any desire to roll a new character. I'd have done the same thing if I stumbled across it, as it is I want to vomit at the thought of having to grind another character to GM.

That said, I'm also with Sklz point of view on this one, whether the punishment was fair or not, and arguments can indeed be made for both cases, the real problem is the lack of consistency when dolling out punishments, not just for this bug as Dulrik pointed out, but for any sort of punishment worthy action in general. It depends entirely on what IMM deals with you.

Eh, Jon knew the bug had been reported so he knew he wasn't keeping the chars. So it wasn't a case of 'Ooo I can roll a char, insta-GM and have something to play now.' I think he was just curious to see what the min time needed to GM would be - set a 'record' of sorts. He wasn't expecting to be banned but that's D's decision and he's fine with it.

Just because other infractions were not punished enough, does not mean that this one should be punished less or not at all. It is worth a siteban.

That to me says it perfectly.

Deletion is not a punishment for throw-away characters. Site ban is the only punishment that would actually BE a punishment for this offense.

That too is a point I wanted to make before I got side tracked.
