Alright, yes, I get the whole "a level takes less xp, but skills take the same amount".

Do you realize how annoying it is, to go out, level for an hour or so, then go back to town or whatever, and learn a skill, and it takes over a whole level per skill. And that's with mid~ Int.

It's really depressing, and I'd be pretty pissed if I was actually a newbie, and say a giant/warrior, and it took me like 2 levels to learn sword or second attack. Please just lower the cost for learning things. I currently have an Apprentice level character, who hasn't learned anything besides sword and second attack, because it takes too much xp. I have 17 skills/etc at "not learned" that I normally would have learned by now.

It takes an hour or so to get a level at apprentice? Are you doing something wrong? I thought it was much quicker last time I did it.

No, I can get more than a level in an hour. But I'm saying like, if you go out for an hour or two, and grind some place to red familiarity (stacking 2-3 levels in the process). And then go learn three skills, and you're out of XP, and you wasted an area (only so many of these worthwhile for leveling) it's really stupid.

And I'm actually half-decent at leveling. I feel sorry for the newbs, and people who generally suck at leveling.

Basically, at each status, there's a finite amount of XP you can get, really (until you hit mentor/master+) because there are only so many areas fit for leveling at those statuses. And to have whole levels of that XP be required for learning skills is annoying. Unless we want people to wait till master+ to sit and learn everything. Which is pretty silly if you think about it. Having some Master level Sorc who needs to learn 30 spells. Because all they learned prior to hitting Master was magic missile, color spray, fly, and invis.

Aha. That does seem drastic. I thought Dulrik already lowered the cost.

Really? This is my first time leveling since the changes, and it took me "You are at the half-way point", "You have just begun your second half", and then like another tick, to learn second attack at the appropriate level, and with "Smart" Int.

And by learn, I mean getting it to low "very good" from a NPC. Would've taken even more XP if I got it taught to the last tick of very good by a PC.

I haven't bothered learning any skills since then.

Low very good is actually very high for training a skill from a trainer (And the last few trains in a skill actually takes more than the first) so I'm not surprised that it took so many trains. I've rolled a few characters since the changes, most of them with low INT, and while the experience cost is noticeable, I don't think it's anything to cry about: If anything you might wish to wait until the second or third rank to train your key skills, and wait until the next status to train the less useful ones, but that's it.

I kind of like it, it makes the player think more about what skills they want to really learn instead of gold being the only factor they worry about (Which was removed by mentoring in a lot of cases)

Taking two ticks of experience to train second attack up to very good, again, is very minimal if you're honest with yourself, especially when those ticks of experience are gained back twice as fast as they were before the changes.

See that is the problem the xp scale was changed not the skill/spell scale. That remained the same. I brought this up a while ago and D told me us that it had not been touched. Which we know but now in scale everything is out of wack! Skill and spell are not costing 2 ticks. Most of them are about half a level. That is the problem.

Yes. Those master level sorcerors who only know magic missile, color spray, fly, and invis are absolutely wonderful for the mud.

From what I know, in the long run, the cost has not changed. In the short run, yes. However, in some instances I agree that the cost is actually nothing close to the payoff. The zones available to amateur characters will never go beyond familiar. Even after many levels, as long as they're below novice. The cost of amateur skills are even quite inexpensive in these areas. If the skills are a priority, I don't think its really that impossible. After amateur, perhaps. I know that I've been lax on my commitment to add more quests lately. That's the idea. The quests should increase in number in order to offset these kind of difficulties. There are many new quests for characters of lower levels available. I know there's not enough, but I think ideally this wouldn't be noticed.
