Paladins have that summon armor spell, right? I know that with many spells, while watching somone use it, I'm always impressed, but when I make a character that class, I find out that the spell isn't all that great, or that it has a bunch of holes in it.

How is their armor summoning thingamajig?

It's awesome. Everything that's on your (most recent?) corpse is immediately returned to your possession and you automatically wear all.

It doesn't return dark aura'd items (Unless they're in containers, I think? Which is probably more of a coding limitation than by intention) and it doesn't return items above your level. Regardless of how lacking it ends up being in PvP, it's awesome for PvE and makes great sense for a paladin.

So, the only way a paladin can be competitive in melee combat is to join a cabal?

Isn't that great.

I mean..competitive against a mercenary or barb who is hasted/gsd/frenzied? Yes.

That's the way its supposed to be. Paladins have plenty of other poopoo to make up for that. They aren't supposed to be the kings of melee.

No, they're not supposed to be kings of melee, but that doesn't mean they should be utter crap either(as far as melee is concerned).

Although, I may not have encountered a competent paladin that would give me a run for my money.

I will play with you! I don't know if you would consider me competent though, but I want to learn.

I like this idea alot. But I would prefer it if A paladin had an aura of courage which made them and party members immune or greatly resistant to fear. That would likely be over powered, but it sure goes well with my idea of a paladin.

Or maybe even remove word of recall from paladins and add aura of courage. which would be a mentor level spell. When cast it would be like bless but it would give you a morale bonus vs fear for the entire party.

I personally believe that with the addition of call armor Paladins perhaps shouldn't have word of recall. THough I am undecided on that.

That would make the fear spell completely useless. Imagine 2 paladins, 2 priests and 2 mercs walking in a room. If the Necro didn't fear, he'd have potentially 4 H-word bombs comin at him, and if they all had any semblance of willpower along with that buff, fear might as well be tossed out the window and necros made useless because any group with a Paladin would completely and utterly destroy them.

As for the word of recall...I've always found it odd. I can understanda Paladin needing it for recalling to their homepoint for defense...But to escape battle, I see that as fleeing personally. Hellions can justify it as merely delaying their vengeance or however, but Paladins shouldn't really be leaving such a distance. If it's just a room or two to regroup, that's a tactical retreat..If it's to recall to safety, that's cowardice.

Yea, I do agree with you. BUt I would like to see word of recall of paladins so if this goes in, and it should conceptually, they could loose word of recall, but you are right, game balance wise this seems like a bit much.

Thread's dead (And I'm not advocating changing any aura of courage stuff), but seriously? Read your example again. Just read it. Say it out loud, if it helps.

"This change would be bad, because then a necro wouldn't be able to solo 2 paladins, 2 priests, and 2 mercs."

Uhh......

Well. The only reason I'd go with this idea is well... because that is how I've always seen paladins. And this is why.

Quote:
Aura of Courage (Su): Beginning at 3rd level, a paladin is
immune to fear (magical or otherwise). Each ally within 10 feet of
her/him gains a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against fear effects.

Because I'm and nerd and I still play 3.5. That's why. Straight from the players handbook.

2E paladins could mop the floor with your pansy 3.5th paladins.

At least you have mounted combat. Right? Right?
