The way I see it, if this change went in, we'd just have every two-hander melee fighter using greataxe, lance or no-dachi for one-hander, halberd for ranged and everything else more or less wouldn't be viable.

Imo the speed system is fine. Changing this would be a pretty huge thing to do and if it ain't broken...

I don't see this as good. Five attacks with a claymore a round is just ridiculous.

Well I could argue that that's where accuracy comes in, You attack five times with a claymore and hit only once, but I think instead what I will do is renege on my uncharactaristic opinion waffling and go back to my original stance and say that you are right and this is a bad idea.

I thought maybe I could work a bit of damage reduction into the game but I suppose it's best not to fix a something that isn't broken.

There's a list. Go to [REDACTED] and search for "weapon comparison" and you'll find it.

I thought I came across something along those lines on [REDACTED]. Now that I want to find that page, as well as the one pertaining to stat info, I can't find it anywhere. If someone could post or PM me a link or something, I'd appreciate it. I might be missing something here.

just search for 'weapon'...

[link removed]

Read the comments though, because the list isn't full/there are some errors specifically in the upper levels of speed that I never bothered to correct.

Sweet! Thanks, Gilgon. I appreciate it. Do you guys still have the stat train caps and racial att caps on there anymore? I came across it one day and forgot to bookmark it. I can't seem to find that either.

Quite honestly, anyone who says you can only use a few weapon subtypes just isn't playing with numbers enough. There are popular specs, yeah, and there are some really [REDACTED] weapons out there, but there are so many variables to take into account that you can almost always find something that hasn't been done before (or at least in a while). Add to that the fact that you get two specializations, and the possible weapon combinations for any one character are huge, all depending on how you want to fight. Accuracy, damage, speed, availability and scripted instances, subtype, reach, no-parry, one-or-two-handed instances, etc. PM me, I'm good at number-crunching.

Now, as to removing weapon speed--that's not a viable idea. Diminishing accuracy, you say? That isn't going to work. Anyone who remembers Dueroril will remember how Tragonis killed most of SK using an incredibly inaccurate weapon. That might be an exaggeration, but he certainly did very well. Accuracy can be worked around. Ten enchants will what, double to-hit and damage? Eh, don't quote me. Believe me, if you put that in, everyone and EVERYONE would specialize in a low-speed, high-accuracy weapon, get it enchanted out the butt, and break everything in sight. Add to that the fact that a lot of weapons rely heavily on speed for their value, and a good deal of the current good/decent weapons will suddenly become useless. Boom, we'll need to revamp every single weapon in the game.

Not a good idea at all.

The idea, if I understand correctly, wouldn't be a flat decrease to accuracy, but that the decrease would be greater with each subsequent attack the slower the weapon is. I would imagine, for example, that the accuracy of a greataxe might plummet by 33% with each attack. That's a 66% decrease for 3 attacks and 100% for 4; good luck enchanting around that.

I suppose I just find this sort of system infinitely more interesting than a hard cap on attacks. It's disappointing to see an epic skill like fourth attack rarely see practical use because the the majority of weapons that natively reach four attacks are only good for mastering parry.

Personally, the weapon subtype system is one of the primary reasons I'll never play a pure warrior. I don't find it enjoyable hunting for a decent weapon type and having my livelihood attached to making sure I've got one of the half a dozen good subtypes, and then only to see me attack twice a round, which my [REDACTED] priest could do.

100%-66%-33% for a greataxe? Yeah, let's just go ahead and take the weapon out of the game. That's a great way to make a lot of weapons useless.

The only weapons that get less than four attacks with specialize or berserk that are even remotely worth bothering with are great-axe, lance, halberd, landsknecht, and greatsword. Lance is [REDACTED] for anything but a certain cabal, although I'm of the opinion that it's still [REDACTED] even then. Great-axe probably isn't worth considering unless you're a dwarf. Halberd does maximum damage, although the accuracy's unfortunately low--I don't think it's a good choice for anything but a cleave (if enchanted). Greatsword is basically the old flamberge, which has been proven to be awesome when buffed. Landsknecht has a tiny bit less accuracy and damage than greatsword, but it has reach.

I'm not quite sure what you're concerned about, unless you want to be able to try any weapon with a merc, which isn't really going to happen.

Any axe has a better weapon in another subtype equivalent, unless you're a dwarf.

A non-dwarf should never use an axe unless he just doesn't have access to a better weapon.
