What would be way more cool, is if you could load up past characters on a test server, with the loot they had at certain points during their existence. Impossible I'm sure, I doubt pfiles go back that far, but it's fun to think about.
The reason SK-Test instance appeared is the same reason it's so unlikely to appear again - the production server died one weekend and we knew it would be down for at least a few hours, or at worst a day or so.

In order to give folks an outlet, we shared a URL to a test copy of the server where we could have fun in the meantime - there was no point trying to transfer the backups across to it (time required + added delay in transferring them back), so we made it a kind of free-for-all anarchy where imms tweaked and hacked and interacted. It was a great solution to a messy outage.

The current server, however, is much more protected against severe outages. Being a hosted solution means the internet connectivity is much more robust (and faster) and being a virtual image it can be moved between hardware as necessary should there be issues in that area.

Ah, memories. :D

I remember the griffon barb in the fist soloing the wastelands at jman when the portal was in the forest. So many changes have happened to all four since that happened.

I had a level 1 giant swash soloing the mummies in morea with the nice serrated swords - back before weapon standardization.

Ah, the memories. Spellblade, you live on in our memories. Forever. RIP

EASIER LEVELING PLSKNTHNXBYE!

I like the PK part of the game the most, but I hate the grind to 50 just to do it. Once you have done it with your first charcter, it's no longer an accomplishing challenge, but a job to grind. I'm not an expert leveler, which makes it even more of an annoyance to me. I'd definatly play again if I could level easier.

I have a suggestion that would make leveling easier, but not so much that it would make it insanely fast. How about stop making skill training cost XP, and make it so you can't learn skills higher then your rank to balance it out.

I'd much rather not regrind some levels just to train skills, that would be a time saver, and it would still keep leveling after mentor/master releatively slow.

Because developers, especially those that make jRPGs think that the average gamer both likes to grind out pointless things and have the time to do this.

To be a game developer, you must inherently be out-of-touch with reality.

Or the other possibility is that you aren't part of the target audience for a JRPG. Another reason that is, assuming you aren't Japanese in the first place. So if you don't like the games they make, don't play them? Assuming you buy them, you are validating their choices with your purchase.

Personally, I love JRPGs and probably spent hundreds of hours fighting battles in FFVII as well as racing Chocobos so that I could get Knights of the Round.

Holy crap, I hated chocobo breeding. I did like the green one, though.
