From what I saw, players policed themselves fairly well, post-changes.

I don't get it. The only one of those that would be effective against a sorc would be arrows. And they still don't do anything against scrolls, and I know from experience that even if you're pumping a sorc full of arrows, he's going to have time to cast charm once and then go ethereal.

Skirmishing or firing from a room away, and keep moving. They wont be able to survive long at all if you are GS'd and they aren't ethereal. I dropped plenty of sorcerors and necros with my scout this way. The other thing to think about is this- by themselves sorc's not holding charms aren't much of a threat at all, meaning they cant handle much of an assault at all. Some weapons can trip them from behind their pet as well. Some spells can keep them from casting, and if you're most types of magic users you have a spell to just run up and cancel their charm from behind your pet anyhow.

As for backstabbing, talk about an I-Win against a sorceror. Any intelligent player with as low as an expert rogue can shut down any sorceror in the game with a little patience.

Everything I mentioned can be the undoing of a sorceror and their charm spell, depending on the situation.

Everything that you've mentioned has already been hashed out in this thread, Furtive. Sorcerors have absurdly easy ways to deal with backstab (MI/racing pulse), tripping (fly), and having their charms canceled (Cast charm on the cancelling person).

The only thing you've brought to the table that's new is arrows, which is really the only way to keep a sorc from charming you. That may be all well and good, but it takes precious little time to run into a room at speed dart and recite. It definitely takes less time to do that than it does to kill a non-naked sorc with MI up through ranged damage alone.

And players "policing themselves well" is not a real solution to the problem. An overpowered skill is an overpowered skill and should be changed, not expected to be left alone as it is.

Pardon me, I didn't realize that proving skills and spells are overpowered through hypothetical discussion of mechanics counters, and how the game-code should be changed as a result--was the philosophy of Shattered Kingdoms? When did Dulrik ever start catering to the whims of any player? *chuckles*

Sorcerors dont fly all the time, rogues should be slick enough to catch them by surprise. You people act like sorcerors are always sanced, fly, ethereal, stoneskin, pets, two charms, racing pulse, 10 hands to have scrolls out for -everything-.

Of course there are hypothetical counters, but its simply not possible to cover all your bases at all times, most people dont even cover the basics most of the time, even when they're planning to fight. Keep your eyes open, be a versatile player. I can't believe this thread is 9 pages long.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Ultrabalance is overdone. And boring.

Any sorc with possible enemies online should always have images up if they aren't ethereal, and even then images isn't a bad idea. Any decent sorc player will tell you this. Fly, MI and etherealform is not "sanced, fly, ethereal, pets, two charms, racing pulse, 10 hands to have scrolls out for everything." MI/etherealform will guard against every one-hit wonder in the game.

This thread wasn't started off of some hypothetical situations where sorcs were too survivable. This thread was started because of Charm Person against PCs. It was brought up by Baldric, the player of a sorceror, reinforced by me, someone who's been recently charmed by a priest with an NPC scroll that he gathered in two minutes, and also reinforced by jhorleb, the person who charmed me -with- the scroll. All three of these players, Baldric and Jhorleb being seasoned players who are benefited by Charm Person being powerful, both have stated that Charm Person against PCs is overpowered, and the vast majority of the playerbase has agreed.

Sorcerors, Necromancers, priests, bards and rogues all have access to Charm Person, which is arguably the most powerful single spell PvP-wise in the game save animate dead. You say ultrabalance is boring? I say having to enchant another suit of armor for 3 hours because your last one got lost due to a charm scroll getting a lucky roll is boring.

So what's next after this? NERF ANIMATE DEAD!!! Sarcasm intended. Secondly. Enchanting armor is not boring. That is bread and butter minor endorphin gamer-gambler pleasure at it's finest. I think what you meant to say is: "I don't like getting killed because the Class I'm playing is dependent on other players to collect and enchant my armor." If you don't do the enchanting yourself there is no rational basis to expect Total Spell Invulnerability. Especially if you aren't full MR.

Sounds like a personal problem to me.

Fixed.

While we're putting words into other people's mouths, I think what you meant to say was... "I am a gamer who has become so inundated with the WoW/JRPG complex that I have begun to confuse mindless, repetitive actions (leveling, enchanting, brewing, scribing) with fun (role playing, exploration, combat)."

However, this is relatively off the topic, with which I agree wholeheartedly. Charm person is overpowered, and I personally would rather see any of Achernar's previous suggestions (e.g., removing / debuffing the scrolls of charm available) implemented than continue to have to run from every sorcerer that I see.

So wait a second, since they can enchant their own gear, they're justified in getting total own spells?

I agree with you on enchanting, but I have no idea how you wanted that point to read... :o
