Is there a reason taslamar's academy charges 15x more to train than any of the other areas?

They do what every struggling nation does when mounted with increasing economic turmoil. They take it from their citizens in taxes, services fees, and fines.

Actually, during tough economic times nothing could be further from the truth.

A responsible goverment should open its coffers during a recession. Take the Bush/Obama bailout for example. 700 billion dollars. The goverment needs to spend money during a recession. They should raise taxes and apply levies during the good times. But they never do. They just accumulate more debt.

It's not that bad. My char ends up giving at least and obsidian to more than half the people that start off there. It's not like you can't either get help icly or just spend a few more minutes spamming kill (generic NPC) for a bit more cash.

Yeah, I agree, but I was talking about what they actually do and not what they should do.

The real answer is that Taslamar's Academy was built before they changed your starting money from 1 Plat to 1 Gold, and nobody bothered changing it afterwards. That's why almost every nation charges 1 copper per skill train, and Taslamar charges 1.5 Silver. The others were adjusted for starting coin.
