As of now, the casting time of charm person has been increased significantly. We may or may not be adding further tweaks to it in future, but this is it for the moment. The rule about RP still applies, use the spell accordingly.

I have an idea.

I think the IMMs should make a habit of getting together and deciding what is punishable and what isn't -before- they take a player aside and threaten him even though he didn't break any rules.

They could even post such rules in a public forum where anyone had access to them. That'd be a good idea.

In addition, we will be scrutinizing any charm logs sent to us much more carefully. Lack of role-playing by either the charmer or charmee may make the player eligible for a XP penalty due to poor RP.

This is from a post made by the Implementor in the Announcement forum. He has the final say. We were following his wishes.

Good point: If possible, it would be nice if those could go in the helpfiles or some more open place if they can be changed before (if any) changes to CP. I honestly had forgotten about that post, and it's not very obvious when it's placed within a thread titled "Bug, dropping your charmie over a city."

EDIT: Looks like I got beat to the punch.

I must have forgotten the definition of significant. Could someone tell me, please?

This is the part that makes me nervous: unless I'm missing something else, there is no "rule" about RP related to charm, only a quick one-liner from Dulrik in an old announcement.

So can we please be given the "rule" about charm RP, including its potential consequences, especially if they stretch beyond the aforementioned XP penalty?

Yes, I'm curious: Is Charm Person supposed to require -more- RP than any other PvP spell? Because there's no indication of that even within Dulrik's announcement post, and it doesn't make much sense to say that either.

To arms, Turon! The imms attack our very way of life!

Why, exactly, is Charm Person being singled out amongst all of the other one-shot-wonder spells and skills to require "more roleplaying"? You've been ignoring it up until now just arguing with jimbo, but changes like this are going to make a lot of people nervous and probably cause half the Hammer to quit if you start tacking on mandatory roleplaying to junk loots.

Yes, it is. Why is this so hard to understand?

I mean, while I respect your desire to use the charm person spell "responsibly," your definition of responsible is a personal one, not one stated by Dulrik or the Immortals. It's just as viable to assume that Dulrik meant that Charm person wasn't meant to be used without RP just like every other PvP action shouldn't be taken without RP.
