 Post subject: Locked doors in pet shops

When you buy a pet from a store, why is there always a locked door in the room that can't be bashed/picked/etherealformed-through?

Just wondering

Its not always, its legacy - old zones are set up that way, new zones not so. This is the room where the pets that are listed are. There was a bug where you could get into some of those rooms and and another person could buy a pet of you o_O

The code still requires the room. We probably just don't encourage builders to put ANY kind of door into it. :)

PS: Anyone gaining access to these kinds of rooms should use the BUG command to report it, and get out ASAP. Interacting with the NPCs stored in such rooms in any way is considered bug abuse and liable to get your character deleted.

Just curious, but could a random teleport land you in one? I mean, I've been teleported into un-built rooms before, so I'm sure that's one possible way to get in (maybe the only).

Well, rooms can be flagged no-teleport, so I'd wager that all such rooms are flagged that way.

Actually no, you could not buy a pet of another character or most humanoid NPCs. It had to be an animal/creature. From what I recall, I was the one that stumbled on this in Exile thanks to a new builder forgetting to lock or make no access to these rooms.

If you wanted a humanoid as a pet, you needed the ability to use scrolls of charm person. Though that bug I had fixed since certain people couldn't keep their yap shut and told others how to accomplish that.
