Hiding, I'm not too fond of the term but it's far more difficult to get the right enchants, than it is to take someone's kit from them. This is a concept that Dulrik does not understand. It is not fun to have to spend several hours enchanting equipment just to be on par for PK. It can take several hours to enchant a suit adequate enough to protect from spells, but only takes seconds to lose it.

I agree.

My point is this: PvP is -not fun-, because in order to even have the chance to succeed, you have to spend hours enchanting a suit. Then, if you choke when the time to PvP actually comes, you have to start OVER nine times out of ten. This is half of the reason for the gap between new players and veterans, and also the reason why people quit playing on account of a lack of time available.

My point isn't that charm person is overpowered: My point is that enchanting is something that has to happen for PvP. I'm fine with that. What -I- want is for enchant to stop detracting from the game and start adding to the game, by actually making it worth the time of people who don't see the point in enchanting for 2-3 hours for a fight than can last 9-10 seconds.

I agree to that as well, I work six days a week and get to miss the prime time with bonanzas and on top of that when I do have time I usually spend it training or enchanting, not too fun.

AFAIK: 1 enchant is roughly equivalent, if not exactly equal to 1 art.

Therefore 14 (the max art any class can have) can be considered a solid base. You also gain resistances from stats, so it is often beneficial to bump your stats first through the use of mods (mainly items with +con/wis/dex since these are the three that affect resistance) before sitting down and enchanting yourself to high heaven. I never stacked reflex, but instead kept +9 dex in mods on me so I could rock out at 25 dex. In addition to dodging most reflex-based spells you'll have a rather nice boost to dodge/shield block.

Best suit I ever made had 140 enchants on it, 3 of that MR. I pretty much spent the two weeks I stayed alive identifying my own items and fapping to the result. Beethiok was such a [REDACTED].

Also, please for the love of all that's good and holy, read what Edoras and Ardith are saying, Dulrik. Fix this god-awful enchanting system.

This is not a good assumption. I haven't seen any instances where this is correct.

I mean, I'm sure it's not correct, but it was accurate enough from the testing I did. That was enough of a pain, let alone trying to ascertain if there are diminishing returns or not. The way I figure, the benefit from art has to be linear, and if there's any scaling down for enchants it'd have to start a ratio higher than what 1 art provides, otherwise enchants would be pretty worthless. If enchants just scale linearly, then it's probably lower than 1.

Just a follow up for anyone interested.
With 13 art and 31wp, I put myself to sleep 16 times out of 100 tries.

With 14 art and 30wp, I put myself to sleep 20 times out of 200 tries.
With 14 art and 34/35wp, I put myself to sleep 14 times out of 200 tries.
Then I added GM bless and put myself to sleep 18 times out of 200 tries.

Wisdom was modded up to either 19 or 20 in all cases. I was mood aggressive for all tests. Sleep was mastered.

was this a typo, or did your success rate actually go down

also, the amount of WIS is quite important; in your future tests, it would be very valuable to know whether it was 19 or 20. was your WIS consistent throughout these tests, at least?

great work, though.

It was not a typo and I cannot explain the discrepancy.

I was also surprised that the success rate of sleep went up when I got bless.

I can wear +4 wisdom instead of +3 next time and be sure that it's at 20. And yes, the wisdom was the same for each test.

Why are you guys even bothering debating this. I swear, the key factor to getting hit, or not hit by a spell is completely random luck. Once you hit 20+ of any of the "save" enchants, it comes down to luck, IMO. You can have 40 willpower, and get put to sleep first cast. Or you can have 10 willpower, and resist like 15 casts of charm person. I've seen both.
