I was under the impression you just can't put it in front of you but that positioning it behind you is legit.

Negative, Ghostrider. If you're not mounting it, it should be put somewhere to rest until it disappears.

I never heard of this rule, only putting it in front is punishable, having it trail behind was always legit when I was in that Cabal.

All pets short of mounts should be removed. Mounts should not be able to show up in a formation preventing people from hiding behind them. Cloth classes will require a skill/spell update to compensate for this change in the forms of,

Barrier spell that absorbs so much damage.
Conjurer spell to summon a minion to take damage but offer nothing else.
Improved fortification spells that are caster only.

It's very easy to move the game away from needing pets to hide behind. So heavy armor and light armor classes aren't felt lift out you can add new modifications to armor enchantments pending on armor type. Increased Parry/Dodge for light armors, reinforced protection from heavy, increased blocking potential from shields and so forth.

Aside from making Bards a sucky class since they can't live w/o a pet (so some other power would probably need to be added in addition).

I really like this best. It would make scouts truly unique with their pet. It would make tanks have to tank instead of hiding behind their pet first. Addition to new powers and/or changes to armor would add some new variety to the game.

It's not legit now. Believe me. We had multiple discussions about this when I played Caeserea.

Have you seen how ridiculous mood defensive is already? A mounted merc would be unstoppable.
No, I haven't seen anything like that. What I've seen is a number of people complaining about how most heavy armor classes are not able to effectively tank in the front rows, and a larger number of people agreeing with them. If there is actually no problem, and heavy armor classes can all effectively tank in the front rows, then that makes up half my motivation for proposing such a change and I will gladly retract my suggestion.

heavy armor classes are fine.

Agreeing with each other is very scientific, isn't it? I've spent enough time around Nyphera, Kaaphri, Paddah and Nico to see them do some god awesome tanking. This is obvious doing it wrong syndrome every time I see someone complaining about their melee character not tanking well enough.

while i agree there are some crazy ways to tank damage and such, it bugs me that almost -everyone- hides behind pets or keeps a pet with them. I think one change that could benefit is to take away bash from -all- store bought pets. This allows casters to have a pet in front of them, but not one that can bash. It allows a swashie or rogue to have a companion with them, but not one that can keep someone locked into place.

I think the obvious questions that need to be asked are, how does this become beneficial, or how does this even affect gameplay. Are you suggesting that peoplare are using their storebought pets to lock people into place with a bash?

Is it so hard to find a barbarian or mercenary PC to do this same exact thing?

I have failed to find a mercenary PC over the past 2 days.

I guess all the Merc players finally got tired of sucking. Barbs & Swashies ftw.
