Failing a gate is not catastrophic if you max mana. The only reason you'll faill it is that the target is unavailable, which additional art is not going to help.

You must not cast gate very much, or something.

You will fail gate A LOT. I fail gates to Beth all of the time, and I know she's not dead. I fail gates to other NPCs a lot too, and then in the same tick, the next try will succeed.

And...what does gate have to do with art, anyways?

Edit : Saladman, you're crazy. And honestly, I would never put art into a Priest. Not even 3 for brandish. But, I don't play priests, so whatevs.

Mana trains are awesome. My sorc has 10 mana trains and 8 art (was 6, but I've put mentor points into it).

I don't mean to butt in and my priest isn't even heavy armor, but why is CON important to priests?

And what does holy word do for grey priests, I mean, really? Is it even worth it to cast?

PS. I fail gates all the time, too. Common NPCs are getting pretty resistant/willpower-y these days. Not sure how it's catastrophic, really, but then again I have mana maxed.

Jenn, I bet you have to refresh and cure blindness a lot.

CON = higher fort save (don't get blinded / deafened / petrified), better move, higher HP (don't wimpy out from area / target damage). Kirken has survived a double backstab from at least three separate rogues (Dago not included). Don't know why red-eyed and red-haired are so easily mixed up.

As to gates: strange -- I can only recall failing two gates in the last two weeks to NPCs that were actually present. But maybe I just don't care.

I don't have to refresh or cure blindness more than usual. For some reason my priest has unusually high natural dex (I don't know how to make the questions at the beginning "work" for me like the rest of you) and I have maxed mana, int, and wis, with the rest of the points into art, cha (early on for leveling) and str.

Now, of course, I wish I had gone more into con, and now I will know what to put my mentor points into. Dago backstabbed me the other day while I was sleeping, and I'm not sure he made it to the second backstab because it was a 1 KO. Thanks for the info, though.

Nothing short of a merc/barb is ever going to survive a sleeping backstab.

I dunno about you fools, but I lived in the DANGER ZONE. I relied on my gates pretty fking hard, I could care less about mana (except when you gate like 3 times only to realize they're in a notransport). The connection between art and gates is the same as it is between art and summons. You resist gates the same way you do summons. On top of that, other players (Jada mostly) said they've noticed very distinct differences in success rates to easy targets (stones, for example) with varying levels of art.

I never really failed my gates much, but I had like 9 art. I also managed to summon some btchzz to the judge's room a few times. Took like 10 tries, but I credit it to the art.

Dago's backstab is weaker than Fivel's at this point. That being said, I haven't failed to one-shot anybody yet, except for Nico, who was brought to 2% and killed the next round. I also wasn't expecting to have to deal with him and was using the wrong type of dagger.

You got it easy. All of my rogues enemies were giant barbarians.
