I know, not another crafting idea post, but this one is a little different and would love to hear others ideas on it.

Basically the idea is to use a crafting NPC. Players can give certain items to the npc to get certain effects/enchantments on a weapon, that the NPC then creates and gives to the player.

For instance, there can be base ore types for the type of material the weapon is made of, with everything from steel ore to blobs of lava for fire subtype.

Next would be how good the weapon enchants are with blessed/power stones. Basically the +x modifier for hit and damage.

Lastly would be rare or unique items that can add scripts to the weapon.

These items could be obtained either from quests or from certain NPCs.

I think this would allow some crafting to enter the game rather easily, while also adding a degree of uniqueness as well in that there would be many combinations available. Plus more and more items be could added to the recipes, with armor and jewelry being done as well.

Lots of ideas have been presented along these lines. This is kind of what I meant by making enchant a skill that you would give to non-spellcasting classes. There are all variety and color and shape of tweaks suggested in this vein, but I'm wondering if there's a way a very crafty builder or three could implement some kind of system based on quests. I just don't know that the results would be worth the effort. A real code update that made options for crafting most useful kinds of objects would be stellar. I really think that custom equipment and customized equipment based on either skills/quests/? would be a great way to entertain players in a way that makes the game more diverse.

Even the simple customization of items like engraving weapons with a single word is entertaining for me (only a shame how limited Kuniyoshi's variety of weapons able to be engraved is though).

I like SK_Phantom's idea myself, and am sure most SK players would like that or something similar too.

I think it's a neat idea. To be fully developed, it will take a while to really spread out the items throughout the game.

I'd be so much more interested in warrior classes if I could change the descriptions/names/coloring of weapons.

I'd like to change the attributes.

'cuz working with the current weapon system is what made me stop playing a weapon-dependent class. Too obtuse, too inaccessible, too many bad choices.

So you are saying girls care more about the storyline than the mechanics? I agree with that. I don't think that's an insult even. I'm glad the mechanics are there and I hope to figure them out but I want cool descriptions and colors too.

All 6,160,000,000 gene pairs cry out in pain at the direction this thread is taking.
