 Post subject: Detect Magic

Can detect magic be buffed to detect affects on rooms? Like no trasportation rooms? Obviously it's not needed for Null magic rooms, they are easy for casters to spot. It would be nice to see what rooms you can summon/gate to/from with detect magic.

Neat in theory, but trial and error has its charm, too.


(hint: think of a summon or a gate you couldn't possibly fail in a room that is flagged for transport. use it as your test.)

I'm not sure if that's what it needs, but it does need something. In all the years I've played I've only found one real use for detect magic that I'm not going to share. :P Who knows, it may have been "fixed" since then anyways? Either way right now it seems like detect poison. Pretty worthless and who really uses it?

It would be interesting if you got some kind of feedback about the recall and magical transport options in a room by typing look room.

Or even just a failure message for gate or summon saying "your spell fizzles" rather than "you failed."

If you can't gate to portal stones it's no-transport.

Rift does give a separate message though, which is nice. Dulrik would have to change that though.

Detect magic is already a very useful spell with pvp applications. I can think of two kills I've had that I otherwise wouldn't have had if it weren't for detect magic. I've also found it very useful in pve.
