The problem is, if people see your aura being dark, it kinda makes it difficult to actually befriend and stab someone in the back when they know it's coming

Yeah.

I'm sorry, Kin, but you really need to focus more on how to paint the picture in your mind within the framed canvas you have been given.

You managed a pretty good go at it before. I'm sure you can do great.

Why do people try to convince Kin otherwise on things like this? We all have our pet peeves and it's well documented that his is people not acquiescing to his ideal RP, even when it's him duping and murdering them.

lol, edited out my attempt to explain it, self owned

There's a difference between roleplay and scening.

That is to say, in a roleplay environment, you don't expect things to go one way or the other. It is dynamic.

Not like.

emote punches you and gives you a black eye

or

emote slowly twists the rusty dagger, grinning with your every whimper

I agree with Kin on this. When you stroll into an inn with DA up and see Dark aura on someone and you are of light, most people assume that OMG must hate him instantly. I ran into that problem with Aramith, I wasn't given an RP opertunity it was insta hate and insta own. I think the only reason is suggested is because most people don't actually RP much anymore its seem to take focus more on Pk now adays. Maybe if it was taken away people would actually RP and use their brains to figure out if they were evil or not.

If that happened there would be so many lolbackstabbers that it would become an sk meme.

There are many abilities that hinge on detect aura as one of the important balancing factors.

Who gets detect aura?

Priests, paladins, and hellions who are all supposed to be biased in a game where alignment is a mystical and unchangeable property of the spirit.

Sorcerors, who are supposed to have access to the utility spells.

Necromancers, who need to know who to kill or something. And are magic users

Five classes. Four of which arguably have roleplay restrictions that warrant being biased against alignments.

This change would not bolster roleplay. It would bolster trite dickery.

True, but honestly roleplaying shouldn't rely on those mechanics to operate. It should honestly rely on the skills as a player to figure out the hints the chars give. A paladin should be able to figure out on his own what is evil and what isn't. Same thing goes for a Hellion. And a priest shouldn't need it cause resurrections and heals should require decent roleplay to figure out ones nature with probings of questions instead of a insta rez cause yous my friend. And mages shouldn't have to rely on the utility anyway cause its shouldn't be there. Necromancers....why should they even bother to have it up. They kill whoever they want for what ever reason no need to be good bad or ugly

Sorry, you're simply wrong. If you want to go into people being "too into PK", here's what would happen: A bunch of diabolics would be "sweet, nice people" for 49 levels, be "sweet, nice people" while they got equipped by lighties, and then be "diabolic killers" when they were geared and had picked their favorite lightie lootbag to harvest.

If you go diabolic, you get to deal with a certain subset of lighties figuring out and avoiding the heck out of you. So what? Hang out with the rest of the mud. And there are still pleeenty of lighties who won't figure out to prey on, and really very few at any given time who will act solely upon your alignment and kill you (even though imo it's a valid response for any hammer for example). But to say "lighties should be forced to hang out with my diabolic until I choose to kill them" is, well, Kin-ish.

Thats not what im trying to say that diabolics would be "sweet" to lighties, what I am saying is that everyone should figure out through conversation and interaction with the character to figure out what they are good or not. Yes lighties would have the problem of figuring out a diabolics theme, but still there are quirks and whatnot that said person would throw up certain mental flags. Instead of seeing (dark aura) or (light aura) and instantly assuming how to rp with that person is like a one up on someone, eventhough both sides get it. People should have to interact and use their Heads to figure it out.
